Draft: Ideal position value by round

This would make me pretty angry. Especially the Guard in the 3rd.

If we take a corner in the first when we run a zone scheme  my head will explode. You can easily upgrade what we have with a midlevel FA. Of course whoever Gettleman picks will probably be a probowler so I will be confident in whoever. Like you said a high pick on an OG doesn't make much since with Amini and Kug, again you can get a good vet OG pretty cheap . I don't see how anyone thinking we don't need to seriously address WR watched us play this season. We need oline help but we have got to make getting Cam some weapons a priority too.

I liked doubling down with Star/Short this past year to remove the failure of Fua/McClain and improve a much needed area

Would like to do the same at WR to remove the failure of Lafell/AE/Gettis

1.) WR

2.) WR

3.) OT

4.) S or CB

Rest) w/e

Yes I would consider it if it is the BPA in the 2nd round.  I wouldn't force it though.  If the OT is better than the WR in the 2nd go OT, if not, absolutely double dip again.  If we did it right, then we would be set for the foreseeable future at WR.

looking at a mock draft by some jeremiah daniel who has us taking LSU's Jarvis Landry.  anyone think he is a viable option at that spot?

I would certainly be happy with him there.  nice route runner, good hands, phsyical, not overlay fast but can make some plays after the catch.

I trust Jeremiah's opinion and thought his mock was quite interesting.  He has a much different opinion of value at the WR/OT positions than Ive seen elsewhere.  luckily for us, there are both deep positions this year.   There are plenty of guys at WR I would be happy with in the 1st

I haven't looked at the draft much yet, but a lot depends on Gross if he retires and if Hardy leaves. We certaintly need help on the O-line and Wr position. I think we can upgrade the WR position and CB position with Gettleman bringing in a couple of good vets. Ginn was an upgrade on returns and helped out as backup WR. We should also look at a good TE in the draft that can block and help Olsen as a threat to receive. Hartsock is a free agent I think and could be replaced. I would let Lafell go and maybe resign Hixon who wasn't given much of a chance to show his talent. If it wasn't for his catch in the end zone we wouldn't have made NFC chanps.

If we don't draft a WR with potential this year we're in for some hard years ahead. Right now even if we draft a WR he'll be sitting at most the number two position, probably the number three. Smith most likely will retire in the next couple years, if not he's already shown that he can't compete at the number one spot anymore. Going into next year without new blood at WR would be detrimental. Any FA acquisitions would be only a stopgap or too expensive to pursue. We need to start developing the new crop of receivers now, if not we'll have nothing but a stopgap FA receiving corps in the future.

1. WR / CB / O-Line (I think O-Line at this point will be thin for our position, but if someone slips obvious BPA.)

2. WR / O-Line / CB (WR first, unless selected in the first round, but BPA.)

3. O-Line / CB / WR (O-Line first, unless somehow we haven't taken a WR. Obvious BPA if a good WR or CB falls.)

4. CB / O-Line / WR (Depending who slips, BPA could come in if a good FS is on the board.)

5. BPA

6. BPA

7. BPA

Addressing areas of need in the first three rounds is important, but BPA should always be considered.

I truly believe with Amini and Kug coming back, the line will be much improved. Gross played at a Pro Bowl level without anyone next to him. With Kalil in the center, we should be good to go, with the exception of Bell. But, we practically have no one at WR...no one. Smitty still has a spark, but not at #1 WR level. We have to find a #1 WR. I think it's more pressing and has been ignored for way too long.

Round 1: WR

Round 2: OT

Round 3: CB
