Second Chance Movies

Recently I hated "Cabin in the Woods"...rewatched it and got the tone that escaped me in a crowded living room of people with differing expectations the first time I saw it.

"Lost in Translation" was another film I hated and did not understand any of the praise but it is such a nuanced film with subtle relationships and i like it alot now. Expecting Bill Murray to be ultra funny possibly.

Some movies get better every time you see it...my two are "Children of Men" (which has such a experience for the viewer that is unique to most any film I ever watched) and "No Country for Old Men" which just is more interesting each time I watch it.

Jack Nicholson plays himself in just about every movie he's in.

And gets awards for it

Nicholson isn't an actor.  He's a persona.

Back on topic, "The Bachelor" with Chris O'Donnell is another one I saw as meh at first, but liked later.

I never disliked this film but I would say "wings of Desire". its one of those spiritual and philosophical films so you have to be a certain mood to watch it. I liked the film more the second time I watched it.

Remade as "City of Angels".

"Movies that have been remade with Nicholas Cage' could be a thread all its own.

(but probably not a good one)

"bad Nicholas Cage movies you actually like" could be a thread also.

He is good for at least 2 or 3 so bad its kind of entertaining films a year.

It's definitely one of those things that might need some handicapping.  Some movies I'll see and say "Wow, this is fantastic."  Then see a number of better movies that come along (that drew inspiration) and go back to the original and think it was crap.

For me though, I thought Austin Powers was hilarious the first time I saw it.  Saw it again 5 years later and never even cracked a smile.

Vice-versa, I though Watchmen was okay at best in theaters.  Then the director's cut came out on Blu-Ray and absolutely loved it.

"Children of Men" will go down in history as one of the greatest movies ever made.

No question... I decided to pick two Really good movies that i think get better every time you watch them. I mean my experience in proclaiming Weekend At Bernies the funniest movie i ever saw in a theather( laughter is contagious apparently) that is not funny at all on a repeated viewing is just not that interesting.

"Children of Men" will go down in history as one of the greatest movies ever made.

I liked it a lot the first time I saw it... But on repeated viewings it just makes me a fanatic for it. The one continuious shots with the long action sequences had to be near impossible to pull off. If it is on I will Jut put the remote down even though i own it on blu ray.

My daughter is mezmorized by it.. She loves it and pulls the movie out out and say cmon dad... No debate!! At 11 she is the coolest person at her school..she got the movie education this whole summer lol..i just let her pick any movie i own despite rating( mo not those movies) and she watched most everthing. Outside of Superbad and 40 year old Virgin she watched every Quentin Tarentino movie, LOTR extended editions, horror movies(Audition to Exorcist).

In Children of Men you experience the story as if you are long with the characters without them ever cheesing out on a found footage type story. Alonso Cuaron deserves all the accolades he is getting for Gravity as it was a visual pleasure. He deserves any award for Gravity but only bc the Academy should have recognized him for Children of Men.

It is definitely in my top 5 all time and rising... 2? Possibly?... Probally
