Speculation on Hardy's Future (NFL.com)

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

The problem in that scenario is that every team out there knows that we really can't afford to sign him. Therefore, our leverage and trade power is significantly reduced.

Hardy is absolutely worth a first round pick. Although I doubt anyone would offer us one for him.

.

If a team wants him bad enough, which they will, they would be dumb to let him get to FA.

Funny, that's not what he said at all.

Was just thinking the same thing.

I believe those are all accurate quotes, but they are framed in a way that's totally out of context... Gettleman wouldn't discuss anyone's contract including the extension of Rivera who was sitting right next to him, but according to the logic of this article we should assume that means Rivera is gone too.

Daniel Jeremiah on twitter just said the raiders have several positions of high interest and pass rush is one of those priorities. Seems Oakland is hardys and our best bet trade wise, but to give up a fifth all round pick for hardy I'm not so sure when they can just pick up clowney on a rookie deal and use the cash elsewhere on other positions

One thing that must be considered as well is Dave Gettleman's faith in his ability to find impact linemen late in the draft. Hardy and Johnson themselves being guys that weren't drafted on the first day. I'm not saying it will be EASY to find another one of these guys, but it might not be impossible.

KC was in the same position with Jared Allen and still got 1 first and 2 thirds and a 6th round swap.

Agreed. But those deals are few and far between. And, early first round picks were very expensive then.

With the rookie pay scale, getting a trade like that us slim to none.

I dont remember teams letting go a young prodigy like that at 25.

You think Dallas lets Dez Bryant go?

You think the texans let JJ Watt go?

just tag em. we need this D we have now or better if we want to get to the ship.

Yes...because it is smart to use 12m of your 15m of avail cap on one player.

This is not madden

My preferences, in order:

1. Keep him with a reasonable deal.

I mean, the guy gave a lot of us pie! And that's not like getting pie from Brenton Bersin either.

2. Tag and trade.

I like pie, but high draft picks are nice too. It'll be tough to get a 1st, especially with the rookie pay scale being cap-friendly.

3. Let him walk, signs with an AFC team.

Not ideal, but at least we get a compensatory pick, almost certainly a 3rd.

4. He signs with an NFC team, but not the South.

I have nightmares of him trying to be blocked by Byron Bell.

5. He signs a 5 year, 20 million dollar deal with the Saints, Bucs or Falcons.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

We just signed Charles Johnson to a monster deal last offseason. Godfrey is on a big deal. Davis is on a big deal. Khalil and Olson are on big deals. We have Cam Newton coming up as a free agent as well, along with over 25 UFAs heading into this off-season with limited cap space.

You give Greg Hardy the 10+ million he wants, how in the world are you signing draft picks plus 20 other players that are needed to fill out this roster and except to be any good at all when there are holes in our secondary, holes in our offensive line and holes in our receiving core? The secondary will only get worse, and the offensive line will only get worse. You thought the receivers this year were bad? Good luck fielding a group of Undrafted rookie free agents because that's all we'll be able to afford. And then factor in that Atlanta can't get any worse than this year. And Tampa can't get any worse. You expect improvement or similar results from 2013 in 2014 for the Panthers?

This ain't Madden.
