Can we ditch Dwill and Jstew?

28's contract makes him a Panther. No way around it unless there is something to his deal we aren't aware of.

34 they could make a June 1 cut

If Stewart had played even close to what we expected then this decision would be a no brainer.  I don't think most anyone here felt that DeAngelo would play out his whole contract. The thinking was keep him until his cap was around 6 million and do a june 1st cut and have 2 years of 3 million dead cap space.

But given that Stewart and Barner both did nothing, I would be afraid to get rid of Williams for fear we would have no one.  For that matter, Tolbert is a free agent this year.

contracts or players, i wish we could and draft kadeem carey from Arizona in the 2nd.

So, let me get this straight. Out of all of the holes on this team, you would want us to cut our two starting RBs which would costs MILLIONS in dead money on the cap, just to draft a RB in the 2nd round?

Are you high?

two worthless rbs taking up a lot of cap space for a playmaker? tell me why that would be a bad thing. THen we could re-sign hardy and easily go pick up a WR/OT in free agency

Wouldn't a draft pick actually have to play a down in the NFL before we crown him a playmaker and decide he is better than Williams who owns our franchise career rushing records. I remember everyone being on Barner's bandwagon and he did nothing.  You draft a running back for the future you don't dump everyone you have essentially mortgaging your future.

How is any RB really gonna be able to prove anything until we move on from at least part of Double Trouble....

As Gettlemen said today, Barner didn't get a shot bc there are too many runners here

I don't think you understood what I said. Two RBs, who, if we cut, would take over almost 20% of our cap THIS YEAR in DEAD MONEY, are the two guys you want to cut? Aside from that asinine notion, there is another problem with your theory. The RB position has become such a cheap position, that guys like Zac Stacy (pulled from the 5th round) and Andre Ellington (the 7th round) are making immediate splashes on teams.

So, not only would you want to kill any chance of re-signing Hardy and any other top flight free agent by sucking up our cap space into dead money, but you would want to waste a 2nd round pick on a guy in the 2nd round, when there are dozens of other RBs who could be had in the 5th or later?

That's why it would be a bad thing.

This isn't Madden. We can't just turn off the cap space.

If they're on the team they're two RBs taking up a lot of cap space. If they're not on the team they're still two RBs taking up a lot of cap space but now we have a glaring need at RB, in addition to the other needs we have at OL, CB, WR, et al. Furthermore, them being on the team or not being on the team in no way impacts our ability to re-sign Hardy. If anything, it makes it tougher to do so because we have to sign another guy to play RB, diverting money that could go into the Kraken's cookie jar. Oh, and we'd still have holes at OL, CB and WR but you want us to use a 2nd round pick to draft, of all things, a running back.

You could make Williams a June 1 cut and not need to invest in the draft in a RB this year.

Cam, Tolbert, Stewart, Barner.....

While Williams creates dead money he would also create cap room to sign a quality starter at a position of need (a mercenary)

Again the decision would be easy if Stewart could be counted on.  Who stepped up?  Tolbert who is a free agent and Williams who is getting old.  When Stewart was hurt and Williams banged up Barner got some carries but did nothing.  He played in 8 games and had 7 yards in 6 attempts and 2 receptions for 3 yards.  Funny that having Williams and Stewart didn't stop Tolbert from getting big carries. I figure it is the old adage that you feed the stud.

As far as I can see, making him a June 1st cut still would create around 6mil in dead money.

The problem with our run game is NOT our RB 's...it is the OL.

The only issue with our RB's are the bad contracts they have

Barner got 3 carries being ran like you would a FB. That means nothing about what he is or isn't.

Tolbert being the best RB is the perfect reasoning to make Williams a June 1 cut. Essentially trade Williams out and add a starter at a position of need (cut him and use the cap space created to hire mercenary).

Wiliams needs to take another pay cut or go. Stewart has us by the balls.
