PFF Ranks Offensive Lines

Getting rid of Shula isn't just getting rid of a coach.  He and Cam have a great relationship and Cam credits him with much of his success. He has done a great deal to make Cam the quarterback that he is after 3 years.  Everyone using the game on Sunday as proof we need to make a change seem to forget that no one ran that well against San Francisco.

You think about it, changing our system and starting over again could set Cam back a year or two instead of keep him moving forward.  Why risk it when we are getting results and making progress. It reminds me of what San Diego did when they dumped Schottenheimer because they couldn't win the big one with him and haven't approached his success since then.

Finally, why does everyone keep arguing a moot point?  He is going nowhere. Is this a contest to be the first to say he sucks so if he struggles next year or the year after, you can be one of the first to say you said it.  You are way behind, Zod has been banging this drum for a year already.

ahh but have i not been saying chemistry? when i said the OBVIOUS thing to do in another thread to get rid of Shula did not mean that WAS the right thing.

there were 7 or 8 plays in the SF game that a slightly dif angle, one more foot, changes our ENTIRE view of next year.

I was very disappointed on Sunday but had a much different feeling than I did in 2008.  Then the window was closing, this time it is just opening up.  I am optimistic that this franchise has turned a corner and will bee good for some time.  Hence once of the reasons I am not overly excited to make changes in the coaches and system.

Our pass blocking was pretty good most of the year. If you guys ragging on the O-line can't recognize Cam can become indecisive and hold the ball far too long at times, or sometimes doesn't recognize a blitz where he is responsible for a man, or has the bad habit of stepping backwards into pressure instead of forward into the pocket, I don't have the time or crayons to explain it to you.

I totally agree with you on these points. Question: On plays when Cam holds the ball so long and seems loathe to throw it away, I notice that no one seems to be open on many of those plays. Are our receivers that slow with the exception of Ginn? Is it poor route running? Is it poor play-calling in the passing game? Too many times this year there seemed to be no separation whatsoever. too many times on third and long plays we dink and dunk for two or three yards or Cam is forced to try and run for the first, which he sometimes is successful and other times not. Your thoughts. Enlighten me.  Damn it was frustrating on way to many third down situations we just did not throw it past the sticks.

For a history nerd you didn't look at our history this year.  Or you would know we were 4th in third down conversions at 43%.  First in the league was Denver at 49%.

We were tops in the league converting 4th downs at 76%.

That is true for the season as a whole. There were some games when the offense disappeared though for long stretches mid game and showed up at the end for a game winning drive or drive(s). The defense bailed us out and the offense was anemic. Just personal observation that it seemed many drives ended with a short pass where our receivers were perpetually covered and we were forced to throw underneath, or Cam would have to run. It seemed we would get 3 or 4 yards when we needed 7 or 8 for example. On the whole, our offense was not very explosive save for some games against sub-par opponents. (of course there were exceptions. My question, is the problem speed, Ginn excepted, poor route running or bad play calling in passing situations? (Or was it bad o-line play at times?) No I did not check the "history." I based it purely on my perception in games when the offense was particularly ineffective.

People seem to forget that we had a very hard schedule this year which was predicted to be the hardest in the league at the beginning of the year. If I remember correctly 9 of our games were against teams with defenses in the top half of the league which had to be one of the most among teams.

I think you are remembering plays and not looking at the bigger picture.  Sure we struggled at time but I bet they were saying the same thing when they played us.

PFF is so subjective. They use their own analysis based on what they see but have no inside information about what was called or should have been called, simply what they see, but my eyeball test says 8th is about 15 spots too high. Does anyone think our offensive line was top 10?

I am a homer as much as anyone but..............

Really???

As you think you know better, please share how much coaches film you have been watching this year?

You do realize All-22 film(Coaches film) is now available to the public, right?

Yes, I am a subscriber.

My point is unless Panther55 had watch at least four games of each team, focusing on line play and not the ball, he is not in position to say how good our line is compared to others.
