"True Detective" HBO Premier

Watching the post show on HBO ON Demand is cool...You learn things you may not know.

One wow point: Cole drinking the beer is significant. It makes anything Cole says inadmissable in court.

Yep, I saw that segment too.

I didn't catch it the first time, but when Cohle ask for the beer he says, "What, you want this to be admissible?".

In the preview, I'm also thinking when Marty is with Rust looking at his evidence and screams "No"...it's something to do with Marty's youngest daughter. The crown getting stuck in the tree a couple episodes back leads me to believe she's going to play some role in this.

It looked like he was watching video in the preview. I think it's footage of Maggie seducing Cohle. The way he reacts it seems like he's shocked/disgusted, but not surprised by it. Based on the way they've been playing the preview clips out of sequence, I think Cohle shows him the video when he first gets to his 'workshop/storage bldg' to get him on board and show him that the 'affair' didn't play out the way Maggie made it seem, because I'm sure Marty is still holding that betrayal over his head.

And I don't think the 'Tall Man' and the 'Man with the Scars' are the same guy. I think the Tall Man is Tuttle. The director may have just been toying with the audience with this, but the way he framed the shots of Tuttle looming over Cohle at the church offices, exaggerating the height difference, made me think he's the Tall Man. I think maybe Cohle did poison him, and then when the killings didn't stop, figured out things go much further than even Tuttle.

I suspect that whatever the film is that Rust showed Marty, it was of a personal nature...  Marty says, "NOOOO!  Get out!" telling Rust to leave after he turns away from the video.  So, who knows what it is?

But, my theory is that after Rust left, he continued to obsess over the case and follow it closely - as the detectives showed with the photographs.  He continued to investigate it on the low, then popped back up.  I think he broke into Tuttle's house, found the evidence that he was looking for that confirmed he was doing some evil stuff, and upon viewing it, he decided to kill Tuttle.  Which he did...  Then I think the video he shows Marty is what he found that led him to kill Tuttle, but as he said, it's not over, and they have to stop the people that are still doing it.

I think that's how it'll play out because one of the recurring themes in the show is the duality of the detectives.  They have the best intentions, and often good hearts, but they often take matters into their own hands for the best outcome (as they rescued the children and killed Ledoux), and often can't share the things that they witness or do with others.

I'm wondering if Rust didn't just present his evidence to Tuttle and gave Tuttle the ultimatum: either you kill yourself or this comes out in public.

Interesting thought...  Either way, my theory has boiled down to the fact that Rust broke into the house and got more evidence on him, and in some way, in either scenario we're speculating here, is responsible for Tuttle's death.

I like your version better though.

    • Super raw, not sure he is worth a top 10 pick.  Primary a pass rusher.  A bit like Burns, very fast athletic but doesnt always follow the play.  His highlights look good but when you watch him play you can see he is just raw and needs to develop
    • Personally, I am not sold on Bryce yet--and I do not think anyone is saying they are, but I don't think Ward is on table when we draft anyway.  Not even sure if I would rather have him than one of the later QBs.  I see a lot of potential in Allar, Nussmeire, Rourke, and even Hamilton from Ohio State--Milroe is intriguing, but I am not sure he is an NFL QB.  Ewers is that sleeper who falls and becomes a solid starter. I think that we sign a veteran who has played and we draft one of these project QBs. To your point:  With that in mind, I think you have to take QB off the table in round 1, and if Bryce can string 4-5 games like KC together, we still need to draft a QB in round three or so---I really think Rourke is a great fit for this offense--he is accurate and gets the ball out quickly---he impressed me vs OSU.   Reason?  I think we may have a tough decision to make about Bryce in 2 years--will he be worth $60m?  That decision is a lot easier if you have been grooming a backup for 2 years who can play. In round 1: I am hoping for PSU's edge Abdul Carter In round 2:  I would like to see us grab a DT who can rush the passer.  Walter Nolen of Ole Miss is versatile and a bit raw. I think he could be an excellent complement to Brown. In round 3:  I would love ILB Danny Stutsman from Oklahoma.  He is a beast. With 11 picks, I would package our 4th rounders to move up into the third round and take a QB.  At the moment, I think Rourke is trending upward and he has the skills Canales seems to want in a QB.  Quick processor, quick release. I would use the fifth rounders on OL.  I know that I left out WR--however, we are getting Thielen back, XL will be improved, Coker will be improved, and Moore has been surprisingly good.  Sanders (TE) has been more than expected in the passing game.  I think we need D more than WR, and maybe we can get a veteran WR to sign or find a hidden gem late.
    • Wouldn't be surprised if he starts a couple Jets games this year with the way the Rodgers thing is going. Giants fans are pissed they didn't keep him lol. He might actually have a little bit of a market.
