Priority Number 1 - Offensive Line

As I see it, our number one priority is at Tackle and Guard.

I know, I know, many of you are preaching WR. WR's don't protect Cam, nor do they help get some kind of return out of our ball achingly ridiculous RB cap situation. Therefore WR's take a back seat.

Gross is up in the air and Bell is a backup at best. Needing two new OT's going into an offseason is pretty awful. It doesn't get much worse than that. We all need to pray Jordan decides to play one more season and for next to nothing salary wise.

Getting Amini back will help, and Kugzilla is green and unproven but with an up side. But Wharton and Scott are hot garbage. Garry Williams probably ballooned up to over 400 pounds since September. Hangman they tried to get rid of in August. Nate Chandler, while serviceable, is also a backup in this league at best.

So worst case scenario we will need two new starting tackles and 1 new starting guard. 3 of 5 starters not just new to starting but new to the team.

How long do you think it will take for them to gel and start working well together under Shula. 1 game? 4 games? 8?

So here is the question, how much of our resources do you feel should go to remedy the above listed problems.

So are we saying Amini is someone we should count on to be solid addition? I think we address OT this offseason and if we address G then it's a referendum on Amini and Kugzilla that they can't be counted on. I wasn't incredibly impressed with Silatolu when he played...and now he's coming off an injury. Linemen with injury problems typically turn out to be a liability. For continuity sake I think we bring back Wharton and if Amini comes back ready to go then Wharton, Kugzilla, Chandler, and Amini fight it out for those two spots.

So in essence I think unless DG just feels all of these OL he acquired suck then we go OT early and maybe a G or C for depth really late. If we trade Hardy for a 1 and 2 then I think we go OT and WR (unless a position like DB is BPA). Those are the positions we really need help with tho.

Going just off memory, Monroe, Oher and Veldheer are worth looking at.  Oher is a better right tackle than left, though.

Be interested to see guards and right tackles too.

We could have 3 All-Pro wide receivers; if Cam doesn't have time for a three step drop it won't matter.

Our pass protection wasn't bad. If anything, we need to improve the push on the goalline, we didn't get any on the goalline last game and the run game in general was not good. I don't think it was Deangelo, I think it was the line not opening up lanes. So the first pick has to be OL or WR. The second the opposite. My preference would be to go the free agency route for the line and drafting a WR (Kelvin Benjamin) with the first pick. Then go OL in the 2nd and 3rd if necessary. Double dip on line and not on WR.

Oh that timeless debate, the chicken or the egg. Bottom line is that we better draft studs. We can't afford to miss period. So despite what we all think, it needs to be best player available between the OL and WR.

I didn't see the presser either but it seems to me the GM and the Huddle are split on how to get better...

Simply:

If we go with offense we gain points but lose on defense...if the goal is 30 pts a game aren't we going to give more points of defense....what is the balance here? I think we got lucky on the patch work secondary this year, it could have really cost us some games... are we doing that again?

what positions are better to get from the draft compared to free agency or trades/ waivers? We cut/resigned Wharton and except for blocking Newt on the 4 th and goal, didn't do too badly.

Don't we get better hands/speed from the draft and hogs later? although we have been burned on WR before....no more LSU offensive players, for sure..

it seems that quality OL can  be pick up later...or am a neanderthal?
