Priority Number 1 - Offensive Line

Wharton isn't bad but he is getting old and we need to build a younger and stronger OL around Kalil. Wharton got pushed back at goal line which caused Tolbert to trip. Imagine if you had Gabe Jackson or Cyril Richardson at LG we would have punched it.

:rr:

Wharton didn't get pushed back. He was actually pulling to block, which is a stupid play design from the half yard line.

So the blame goes on Shula here IMO.

I'd say keep Scott for depth. Chandler, with a whole offseason to learn scheme and technique could be a stud at RG or LG. For pete's sake halfway thru camp he switched to LT, then thrust in at RG. He did a bang up job all things considered.  Who the hell knows with Kugbila. But for the love of Dios we need a freaking RT who can pass AND run block. It will be deep at WR. But if there's a stud there aka KEENAN ALLEN we better not go "hog mollie" (which I'm fuging sick of that term already) I will be pissed.

All that aside, I have serious confidence in Getts. Carolina will be an enticing spot for FA's for the first time in a decade

lol I think alot of people have been saying that since 2006, still hasn't happened.

This draft has alot of talent. The time is now.

Stop ignoring this need.

If we sign Nicks we can afford to pass on a WR in the 1st this year.  I would still like for us to draft a wr in a later round and hope he pans out.

I'm not a Nicks fan so bringing in Nicks really doesn't solve anything in my eyes. Plus i doubt he accepts a one year prove it type deal.

A 35 Year old Steve Smith and WR group of FA loafers (Lafell), castoffs (Ginn) and role players (Hixon) make up our WR.

Having Cam Newton with his athletic ability makes up for the statue that is Byron Bell and whatever player gets converted to play RG.

However, Cam buying time in the pocket means nothing if he looks down the field and the loafers are running with the defense instead of away from them.

Cam is our supercar. GM needs to stop feeding our Bugatti unleaded 87 fuel.

I would feel completely fine going into next season with Silatolu, Kugbila, Wharton, Byers and Chandler and another low end draft pick OG as long as we sort the OT situation out.

OG quite simply isn't a bigger need than wide receiver. Our weapons are terrible and I know that because people can't see them at all times on their tv screen that they don't typically quite understand what we lack at the position, but our current crop is as poor as any in the league. Cam took a ridiculous of amount of coverage pressure this season. Even during the times when the OL played well we still struggled to throw the football because guys simply can't beat their man consistently.

I understand it's the offseason so we'll have to deal with endless hordes of idiotic "zomg why dunt u receiver geeks go play TEH madden" but it's just not something we can overlook anymore, it wasn't last year but Gettleman wasn't sold on any player on the offense and so didn't bother to invest in it when he just planned on rebuilding it completely..

The league demonstrated pretty fully this year what difference having a crop of talented players around a QB does for him, especially a young one.

Yeah we definitely need to fix the line first. Look at Eli for example, He is good QB but his Oline rendered him useless this season. He didn't have time for anything and his rb didn't help either. It doesn't matter who you have at WR if there is no time to step up to make a pass. Eventhough Cam is very mobile, we can't always rely on him dancing in the backfield. We need to fix the line first and then take a look at WR. I used an example of our goaline plays this sunday which could have changed the outcome of the game. If our line doesn't fall like dominos then we score. An Oline makes a huge difference in getting that extra yard. Beef it up!. Even though WR is a sexy pick, Oline is the smartest one.
