Everyone said the same thing about Rivera as well.

This is Rivera's first chance at HC, and he's improved every year. Shula has always sucked, and continues to.

1996 (TAM): 28th total offense, 22th rushing offense, 29th passing offense

1997 (TAM): 29th total offense, 11th rushing offense, 30th passing offense

1998 (TAM): 22nd total offense, 4th rushing offense, 27th passing offense

1999 (TAM): 28th total offense, 15th rushing offense, 30th passing offense

2013 (CAR): 26th total offense, 11th rushing offense, 29th passing offense

Whilst I can't argue the stats, I will say this, Shulas offense no matter how methodically predictable it is and porous at times I think the time consuming efficient drive philosophy suits our defence, or they work well in tandem, there's no way our defensive unit is as good this year statistically with say a chip Kelly run offense that's based on explosive fast paced driving which gives your defense no or limited time to recover, not defending Shula at all look at my previous posts is like a new oc but it's the one and only positive I can find about him.

The problem with our offense was protection, run blocking, and a lack of receiving threats, not Shula.  No, Shula is not the innovative coach that confounds defenses with his schemes, but he did well enough to make an efficient offense with competent pieces.

This was his first time as an OC in the new NFL.  What he did 11-13 years has no bearing on this year or going forward.

Our offense doing poorly has nothing to do with TOP. We won TOP against the 49'ers and lost by a large margin. We can still have a good attack with a high TOP. Right now we're only spinning our wheels on most drives.

The guy who was so innovative for us last year is unemployed.

I'm just stating that time of possession is key in games it also helped our defence this season in some crucial games like New England where we kept Brady off the field with long drives but that game we executed by scoring points that's the difference! I agree top is all fine and dandy if you convert into points but that's a start the next thing is to get creative and gutsy on playcalling unlike the two goal line calls against San Fran, it shows though that not all his schemes or playbook was bad because we did move the football we just lacked execution in the final process the redzone!
