DG: We are still cap challenged....RR: Coaches staying

Yeah I loved his press conference. He doesn't sugar coat things and admits there's no way to magically fix our cap problem. We just have to work through it.  Like Gettleman said every team has let a good player walk. The teams that sustain success have to do it. I'm glad that we finally have someone willing to make those decisions and is competent enough to make the right ones.

I think people are waaayy too worried about Hardy. That logic had us franchise Peppers, overpay CJ, Beason, DWill, Stew, and Godfrey. Hurney made too many sentimental decisions. Can't do that anymore and I'm GLAD Gettleman won't. Hardy is awesome but everyone forgets he was a 5th rd pick and didn't blow up until last year, Who's to say that the same thing won't happen with Alexander or one of the other young guys who have shown just as much/maybe more as Hardy did before 2012. We gotta stop being the dude that's afraid to let his girlfriend walk because he's afraid he can't get another girl.

Rivera will put a top 5-10 D on the field next year with or without Hardy.

Yep.  He talks about business decisions and what's best for the franchise.  If at the end of the day and after looking at everything we can make the room to really improve the offense by cutting ties with Hardy, let's do it.  The D can most definitely sustain their way of play, especially being on a Ron Rivera-Sean McDermott football team.  Even the secondary will be able to get that much better too if we don't weigh the $$ down on ODLs that much.

Teams will want him so we should try to do the tag and trade.

We're looking at $19 million in cap space this coming offseason.  Would you really want to spend at least 60% of that on one guy on a great defensive line?  We need to balance the team out to get better right now because of Hurney.  Players may go who people like, but again it's the reality of the NFL.

I am assuming that $19 mil figure has to cover draftees as well. So if 19 mil is the real cap, then how much money are we actually dealing with after paying rookies?

Lets wait and see what happens. Gettleman's press conference was as much posturing as anything as he goes into contract negotiations with Hardy and other players.  Other than Umenyoira who was hurt when they released him, exactly how many D line studs did the Giants let walk in the past decade?  I could be wrong but I don't remember that many.

And for the record, Hardy was a 6th round pick.

Alright but that minor detail doesn't negate my whole point dude.

We all would like Hardy on the team, I just don't see how you pay both him and CJ that kind of money and don't hamstring the team all over again. The teams that win consistently don't let the players hold them at ransom. I would not have paid CJ that much money. We are classically bad at overpaying players. We are still paying for Hurney paying Deangelo top dollar and then doing the same with Stew, now you want to do it again except much bigger numbers? What's CJ's cap hit this year? Like 16-19mil? How are you going to have 2 of those contracts while improving the team and  resigning Cam? Maybe if Charles drastically restructures.

I really wish people would stop throwing every Panthers' decision back to the Giants. Gettleman was not the GM so DID NOT have the final say so on roster decisions so who knows what moves he was advocating behind closed doors. His job was to evaluate players not make the tough financial decisions...which he just hinted that he is willing to do. I feel very confident he will sort it all out for the best.

Of course its just wait and see. It's just my opinion, could be as wrong as any. Hardy's words just sound like he wants Peppers/CJ type money. Good for him but  if that's the case I don't think they should/can do it.
