DG: We are still cap challenged....RR: Coaches staying

My god!  How can people justify having a 28th ranked offense with Cam Newton? It's just not conceivable, really.

Only in the Huddle and at Carolina Panthers Headquarters where those two know-nothings Ron Rivera and Dave Gettleman reside.

Never thought I'd see the day that people support Shulaball.  Shulaball is not something to be lauded. It should be scorned. It's like being forced to take castor oil.  There is a better way!

You know, those two know-nothings, that along with Mike Shula, led the Panthers to their best record since 2008.

Yeah, those two guys, as well as many in the Huddle, believe Mike is worth keeping for another year.

Some posters in here are at that point of an argument where it doesn't even make sense anymore.

Basically, we should expect Gettleman to make some hard moves and it's the reality of the situation. I think he's got the acumen to hold on to the right long term pieces for this soon to be perennial playoff franchise.

It's funny how Gettleman said, 'out of all the GM jobs available, this is the one I wanted the most'. He added, 'I felt this was the best available'.

Unless, I'm mistaken, it's funny no one in this thread has commented on that. Conversely, no one in the media followed up and asked him "why" he felt that way (though it's obvious to many of us here, and Football Outsiders, etc,, the past two years previous to this season).

And I don't think Gettleman, said anything one way or another regarding Hardy, though I can see why some felt he was preparing  fans for a potential loss.

But it's true, Gettleman, didn't discuss anyones contract situation, including his head coach.

I think you are correct.

I read his comments to be that the cap situation is still an issue that he is dealing with. And that we need to let them do their jobs.

He will make the decision that he thinks is the best long term for the Panthers regarding Hardy. Not sure what that will be yet.

Rivera and McD went from doghouse to candidates for coach of the year and interviewing for other coaching gigs.

Did the coaching thing just come on them all of a sudden and out of the blue?  What was the difference in this year and last?

Answer:  Infusion of players, namely the 1st and 2nd rounders on the DLine.

Gman is now set to do the same for the offense (and Shula)

Meanwhile whilst all you are arguing about Shula and how bad his offense is the Seahawks ranked 26th and Niners 29th are playing for the NFC conference title and a place in the Super Bowl.

Too many people are concerned with stats these days! Surely the only meaningful stat is the amount of W's and we went 12-4 now whether that's based on defence or offense I believe mainly defence, but the offense had it's moments I mean the four game winning drives were in essence to finish off what the defence had created for us. All I care about is winning and we went 12-4 so I don't see an issue. Winning football is played in many ways it's not all Detroit throw it's 500 yards to megatron for huge exciting plays!

Yeah I loved his press conference. He doesn't sugar coat things and admits there's no way to magically fix our cap problem. We just have to work through it.  Like Gettleman said every team has let a good player walk. The teams that sustain success have to do it. I'm glad that we finally have someone willing to make those decisions and is competent enough to make the right ones.

I think people are waaayy too worried about Hardy. That logic had us franchise Peppers, overpay CJ, Beason, DWill, Stew, and Godfrey. Hurney made too many sentimental decisions. Can't do that anymore and I'm GLAD Gettleman won't. Hardy is awesome but everyone forgets he was a 5th rd pick and didn't blow up until last year, Who's to say that the same thing won't happen with Alexander or one of the other young guys who have shown just as much/maybe more as Hardy did before 2012. We gotta stop being the dude that's afraid to let his girlfriend walk because he's afraid he can't get another girl.

Rivera will put a top 5-10 D on the field next year with or without Hardy.

Lets wait and see what happens. Gettleman's press conference was as much posturing as anything as he goes into contract negotiations with Hardy and other players.  Other than Umenyoira who was hurt when they released him, exactly how many D line studs did the Giants let walk in the past decade?  I could be wrong but I don't remember that many.

And for the record, Hardy was a 6th round pick.

Can Gman talk Dwill and Stew into taking a paycut?

Gman has no leverage to do that.  If D Williams says no, you have  a cap hit of 5 million for the next 2 years in dead cap money if you cut him and if you keep him his cap hit will be 6 million.  Similarly with Stewart you can't cut him for at least 2 years so why would  a player take  a cut?  For the good of the team?  Beason only did it because he wanted to be traded and wanted to be more desirable to another team with a low salary. We still are eating 8 million in dead cap space in 2014 for that move.  This is a business and both players and GMs know that the window for making big bucks is small.  Just like Hardy won't be taking a big discount here unless he really wants to be here. Who knows though, he is a little strange.
