Hey even Jeff Davidson went 12-4

As usual the huddle misses the point. A poor coordinator shouldn't be kept just because of the team's record. You don't think teams won't have film on Shula? He's already a questionable OC. How will he be after teams already know what's going to happen? Has he given anyone confidence he can adjust and be creative?

I have a tendency to defend a lot of OCs. I think they are too often scapegoats for fans who score 60 points on Madden and think throwing the ball deep is just a matter of calling a play.

But I did not like Davidson at all. I thought he was terrible in the passing game. Beyond terrible actually.

But I did like his zone blocking running style, which was a perfect fit for D-Will in particular, but really both RBs.

The same people are complaining about no offensive skill positions, no offensive line, conspiracy theories, and a poor OC. People just like to complain without really thinking about what they are saying.

or the answer is all of the above.

i can complain about all those things and them be right....mainly the skill positions (we need another top WR and maybe another pass catching TE), the offensive line (we desperately need RT, need improvement at RG, and need to start rebuilding that left side), and poor OC (results speak for themselves, and i'm talking about offensive production which is what shula is responsible for).

we are doing plenty of thinking and none of this is new. the only new thing is the discrepencies in the officiating that last game. it was piss poor and favored san fran.

12-4 and nfcs champs was great, but the offense was the thing that hurt us this year. it held us back. it just wasn't as good and productive as it was in years past. it may have been more efficient and utilized more receivers on a regular basis, but it could have been more productive. we should have scored more points this year and we didn't. i don't know why this should be overlooked.

Did anyone see the stat before the playoff game that said that if we won the Superbowl this year, we would have been the lowest ranked offense to EVER go on and win a Superbowl?

That tells you something.. We need help on offense.

I thought Shula was decent this year, but we couldnt put up enough big plays.  He had been saying that for a little while too, talking about how hard it is going up the field a few yards at a time.  I thought going into the season that our WRs would be better.  Cam would be better, LaFell was supposed to make good improvements, and the additions of Ginn and Hixon seemed like definite improvements over what we had.  Yet our offense ends up making a drop in numbers.. And at the end of the year, you saw Smitty bring in a couple of deep catches.  Is it just me or was Shula not trying to do that enough throughout the year?  I agree that we need some more weapons on offense, but I also dont think Shula was able/creative enough to get the ball downfield.  Ron and Dave need to really look at what Shula has done, and whether or not he can improve our offense in a big way.

Worse offenses have won the Super Bowl.....if you go by yards and points

Shula didn't have talent to run a high scoring O......unless he put Cam in shotgun and ran him and had a high risk O that would put the in bad spots

I think when I heard it, they were referring to total offense which is yards.  We were 26th i think. ?

They were referring owning the 26th ranking.

In yards and points per game they were better than the Ravens (Dilfer Ravens) and I didn't look beyond that. Dilfer Ravens had a worse O.....had a better ranking than 26 when compared to others that year

Ok.. but what I said is still a valid point.

It is a true statement but a little deceiving IMO.

I dont think it was deceiving.  It makes sense to compare our offense to current offenses.  If you are staying the same, but everyone else is improving, then you are getting worse...  So even if the Ravens were worse than us back then, if everyone was worse, than they were actually in better shape.

What was the lowest ranking before that? Or before the next one?

That is for fun and total yardage ranking should not drive decision making.

We tried a higher risk reward offense in 2011 and first half of 2012. How did that work out for us?
