Question on Hardy

The larger issue for me is how much we could improve the offense if we franchise/trade Hardy. Both in terms of the pick(s) we'd get and also the cap space we'd save. We can afford to take a step back on defense if it means taking two steps forward on offense.

SO what do you guys think. Do we spend a ton of money and risk not signing other improvements for this inconsistency?

Can't make a judgment call like that without factoring in pressures, hurries, hits, etc.

No.

Belichick is not afraid to let players walk, or squeeze value (picks) out of them. We should tag and trade Hardy to the highest bidder. We hopefully get a 1st round pick (maybe a couple of 2s), and insert Alexander, Addison or West Horton into Hardy's spot.  Those guys always appear thirsty when they're in the game.

Trading Hardy prior to the draft is the absolute best move for the Panthers given the likely outcomes. They can't afford to gut the team in order to pay another elite pass rusher, and the NY Jets showed that there is plenty of room for a team to deal an elite defender on a franchise tag. They received a first and fourth round pick for Darrelle Revisis 2012, opening the door for a similar trade.

the chiefs also did that with Jared Allen and got a 1st and two 3rd round draft picks... we could really use extra picks right now cause thats how you add cheap talent

We have a lot of holes and only so many draft picks with no cap to keep our biggest strength in tact.  People expect Gettleman to perform his wizardry with the cap, but it's these draft picks he's going to have to hit homeruns on...
