I should have been more specific. What I meant was, if we tag and trade or sign and trade Hardy, doesn't part/all of his bonus count towards the Panthers' cap number, even after a trade?

 

I dont believe so.

 

If we are going to trade Hardy that would mean that a team is willing to give Hardy a long term contract. The contract would have to be made out before we even tag and trade him.

 

Also, I dont see why we would sign the guy and then turn around and trade him.

 

Right now, it'll most likely be a tag and trade, or Hardy is walking as a free man. I dont see Gettleman tagging Hardy and taking a 12mil cap hit for one year.

Yea, but I just don't see it happening anymore after guys like Erving, Ogbuehi, and Collins are returned back to school. Unless Gettleman falls in love with some other guys I dont see it happening. Let's remember that atm we have only "one" receiver on the team and that's 89. I should also include that 89 is close to being done.

 

Gettleman preached about having these "touchdown" guys. Where are they? Gettleman will go after one in the first two rounds.

Free agent wide receivers have an unfortunate tendency to not be as good as they were at their last job.  There are exceptions, but teams have tended to have more success with receivers they develop themselves (QB chemistry, etc).

 

On the flipside, I've heard more than one GM say that outside of the top one or two guys in the draft, it's tough to tell which linemen will work out.  That's why he tended to pick late, wait to see who looked good on another team and go after them.

I don't mind going corner in rounds 3-7, CB is a very difficult position to project in the league (plus Rivera has hinted in the past he doesn't put a whole lot of emphasis on drafting a CB high)

 

 

still we HAVE to get Cam a playmaker at receiver. for too long we have depended on Smitty to do it all. We could have an AMAZING offense with Smitty as a #2, Ginn as a #3 and a young stud at #1, combine that with Olsen, Tolbert and Stewey if not Williams too ---that's a helluva offense

 

go OT at some point in the draft early (rounds 1-3) but you MUST go receiver early. must.

People dont seem to realize the Niners have had that offense line for a WHILE. 3 FIRST ROUND PICKS.  And they didnt become relevant until they got a QB AND RECEIVERS. Skill positions matter.

 

No, they got relevant when they signed Harbaugh. The talent has been there for a while. All of their big time players currently on the roster were there pre-Harbaugh with the exceptions of Aldon Smith and Boldin.
