Upon further review, we should go o line in 1st round instead of receiver

Oops meant to put this in the Draft section.

OP was to long to quote, but i have to disagree with your statement. this team needs weapons on the outside for the last couple of years, but the OL needs to be addressed as well. you have to go bpa out of OT, WR/TE, and DB. plus that list of WRs drafted in the 1st round looks rather good compared to what this team has currently.

that was the main difference in 49ers in the 2st game compared to the 2nd. Colin had his weapons on the field so we could take away just one threat. you take away smitty, and who steps up on this roster? there where several times when Cam was going thru his reads and nobody was open. this team has ignored the WR position for far to long early, it is time to invest in that position.but i do think the OL needs to be addressed as well.

Love Pryor if he is there in the 2nd Grab him.  As in another thread.  We should be able to get at least a 2nd for Hardy.

Wr in the first unless we can trade down still regardless should grab one rounds 1-2.

other 2nd grab a young stud corner out of this deep class.  Grab a DE, would love Martin next.

Hardy gone will open up cap space.  Nicks will come cheap stock dropping fast, Tillman (one thing that has not helped these DB's one bit has been the lack of Vet back their) Tillman shouldn't break the bank has played under Rivera and old looking for ring.  Leftover money from hardy........throw a dart at Oher.

2014

didnt go over board overhauling the OL got enough to get the job done.

Got the WRs to help the young QB, help the RBs running lanes opening the box, takes pressure off OL less in box harder to blitz

Stacked the D head to toe for Defensive style coach.

Overall balanced team like the Steelers and Baltimore champ teams

2014 D:

Martin

Star

KK

CJ

Blackburn/Klein

Luke

Davis

2nd round CB

Tillman

Mitchell

Pryor

No No No No.

We are not doing this again. We are one day into the offseason and people are already manufacturing excuses for why we only have to invest the bare minimum at the WR position.

It isnt time. Its past time. It was time years ago.

The ONLY reasonable pursuit to make at the WR position this year is BOTH a notable free agent AND a high end draft pick. We are not letting this pass us by again. It is time to double down. At any cost, we have a formidable corp next year.

Exactly.  If we nab a FA WR, it better be a notable one we'd still need to draft at least one receiving threat to grow with Cam.  We have the ideal window to do that this offseason.

Good point, but I feel Crabtree is the exception to the rule. Don't forget the Niners have also gone with Iupati, Staley, and Anthony Davis in the first round in recent years. 2 of those are Pro Bowlers, one just outside Pro Bowl range. Kaepernick also has Anquan Boldin (former *2nd* rounder came to the Niners via free agency) and Vernon Davis (1st round tight end, but Jimmy Graham and Gronk show that tight ends can be found past the 1st round).

Tom Brady beats most teams consistently with a strong OLine and uses college practice squad WR's and RB's.

OLine strength cannot be stressed enough.  Look what fixing our DLine did to our overall D.

OP is 100% correct

Part of that is drafting guys who can play a role that highlights their strength. When you have guys who are as quick and smart as Edelman and Welker running option routes for Brady or Manning from the slot, they make it look easy. Look how misused Welker was in Miami. They weren't playing to his strengths as a player. This begs the question, what type of receiver would look best in Carolina's offense? I'm picturing a bigger target that can beat coverage and give Cam an easy target. Straight line speed won't matter as much as great hands, body control, and size, IMO. I think Matthews or Benjamin would be good fits, if Carolina does go WR in the 1st round. Offer Nicks a one year deal with lots of incentives and let him play his way to a big extension next offseason, either in Carolina or elsewhere. Resign Ginn to reprise his role from this year, and if Smitty wants to stay on for another year or two and try to get a ring, you have the luxury of having a few interesting pieces to move around and play with at the receiver position. No classic slot guy, but an 11 package with Williams or Tolbert, Olsen, Nicks, Smith in the slot, and a big rookie WR outside looks pretty great on paper.

Upon further review, we should:

(1) Trade Hardy for Jax's no.39 + 2015 2nd

(2) Sign WR (Hakeem Nicks), OT (Oher/Saffold), DE (Justin Tuck), and CB (Cason) to one year deals

(3) Go "Calvin Pryor" or "HaHa Clinton-Dix" in the 1st instead of WR or OL

(4) Take Jordan Matthews or best available WR at no.39

(5) Take Loucheiz Purifoy or best available CB at no.60

(6) Take Andre Williams or best available RB in the 3rd

I definitely wouldn't hate this, but I'm not sure what the cap implications of a sign+trade for Hardy would be.

yeah they did, but we have spent a 2nd on Amini and he should be back. Kugbila should be back, but i do want an early round OL as well. but, i also want an early WR. i think the OL and WR should be the early round picks.
