Upon further review, we should go o line in 1st round instead of receiver

is it that time of year yet where any and all reasonable draft discussion is replaced by the pseudointellectual "WE GO BPA" retort spammed across all nine mythical Huddle subforums

Don't forget the part where we trade down for a bunch of picks and a starting left tackle

Huh? I get that the Bengals or Falcons aren't playing for a Super Bowl this year, but my god, AJ Green and Julio Jones aren't reasons why. This is idiotic.

Falcons gave up a lot for Julio Jones and went in the tank. AJ Green is amazing, but so what? Receivers don't have enough value that's sort of my point. Calvin Johnson was drafted high too, how many playoff games have AJ Green and Johnson won?

I have to say our biggest need right now is a Star  WR. I say we can address the oline some what in the FA market and then draft a guy in 2nd round. But WR with the number one pick would go a long way for Cam next season. Smith is 35 and he could at any time this off season announce that he wants to retire. No one can really tell. This is why a WR for the first round is much more need then an olineman. Because guys Lafail and Ginn can never or will ever fill Smith shoes. We need someone in the draft to do it. Needs to start with the first round. Plain and simple.

When was the last time a "star" receiver won a ring? Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, AJ Green...these guys are known as the three best in the league right? No rings, only Fitz has any playoff wins when he was paired with Kurt Warner and a younger Boldin. Steve Smith had one of the all-time great receiving years EVER in 2005, what good did that do us against Seattle when they tripled him all game long and dominated our offensive line?

Kind of hard for either of those high calibur WRs to get into the playoffs when both of their QBs suck donkey  balls. If Cam was their QB then they would have been in the playoffs and maybe a SB win by now.

Give thoses stars WR a decent QB then we will talk. Dalton and Stafford are not all that good. Cam is better then them.

No No No No.

We are not doing this again. We are one day into the offseason and people are already manufacturing excuses for why we only have to invest the bare minimum at the WR position.

It isnt time. Its past time. It was time years ago.

The ONLY reasonable pursuit to make at the WR position this year is BOTH a notable free agent AND a high end draft pick. We are not letting this pass us by again. It is time to double down. At any cost, we have a formidable corp next year.

eh, for a 12-4 team we have many holes.  i'm talking Decker/Nicks type quality WR would allow us to go oline/db first and second.  dont get me wrong, would love to see us develop a blue chip wr, but we saw what the run game has become.  of course if we settle those positions in FA, then definitely get the fourth of fifth best WR left on the board at 27 or wherever we are picking.

Here is a list I made of 2nd round receivers in the last 5 years.

There definitely can be talent had in round 2, but the success rate a finding a stud WR in this round seem a lot lower when looking at the list you posted.

Justin Hunter

Robert Woods

Aaron Dobson

2012

Rueben Randle

Stephen Hill

Ryan Broyles

Alshon Jeffery

Brian Quick

2011

Randal Cobb

Torrey Smith

Greg Little

Titus Young

2010

Arrellious Benn

Golden Tate

Dexter McCluster

2009
