This guy deserves some major props for the year.  Best hire by Richardson since team has formed IMO.  He built pieces around this garbage hurney left quick with his hands tied.  Wish the season kept going but this time in August if someone told us we would get this far everyone would laugh.  Week 4 no shot in heck.  He has his hands full with Hardy coming up.  But I fully expect everyone ecstatic what he is going to do with the situation, the offensive situation etc.  OL  he scouted pretty damn good in NY, they never had any big name OL guys come in and they still had a stud Line.  Step 1 complete and we are already in the playoffs.

This up coming season is DG real test... I would like to see how he improves the offense and then we can give him props for real.

Hurney Players: Cam, Luke, Kalil, Gross, Smith, Johnson, Hardy Davis,     >   DG: Star.

The guy came in with some talent.  But there are plenty of teams that have just as much if not more that fail.  Smith is a stud WR, Newton is a Young up and coming QB Luke is Luke but Beason came out as a top 2-3 LB in the league Davis is still Davis.

just 2 years prior we had pretty much the same last year same etc.  He comes in with his hands tied with some bad contracts, getting some DB's that were just good enough to hold up (we could have still had naka)  He went out and got Ginn which has showed up big for us.  Blackburn and Klein Both solid.  No one expected this team to win more than 8 games like someone said up until halfway through this season.  He brought in just the right pieces though to patch up enough to get the 12-4 season.

Heck even this past draft: Short in the 2nd round has looked like the best 2nd round pick since well.....its been awhile.  We only have 1 remaining player from the 2010 draft and we had pretty much the top pick in every round!

2nd Round picks since 2003-Bruce Nelson, Keary Colbert, Eric Shelton, Richard Marshall, Dwayne Jarrett, Ryan Kalil (finally a good pick), Everette Brown (our first pick for 2010), Sherrod Martin, Jimmy Clausen, Armanti Edwards (our 2011 second rounder), Amini.

Outside of Kalil, Short's first year is already better than any of those guys best year here.  For a GM who was "Building around the draft" to draft like he did we were just being set up for failure.  No team with the #1 pick only has that #1 pick from that class after just 2 seasons.

I still need to see what he does moving forward. He took over a team with a lot if talent and made some great moves, but he has only one season under his belt.

Still too early. Hurney and Fox had us in the Super Bowl in three years.

I'm a DG fan, but let's not get carried away yet.

I cant wait to see the next moves he makes. Next year cant get here fast enough!

yep.

he got a full year to watch this organization. he did really well with just a couple months to prepare for the draft and FA.

i have faith that this was just the beginning of very good things to come.

I thought, and still think he criminally neglected the offense in the draft and free agency, and we paid for it in the playoffs. And I will go to my grave thinking that KK Short and Kugbila were disastrous picks. Not that neither will pan out one day, but they were picks that left GLARING holes in the offense, and even the secondary of the defense. If he had hit on those two picks maybe we'd still be in it.

But on the other hand he has crafted the foundation of a defense that's solid. I can't say "he built a defense that's built to last and compete for a long time" since one of our defensive lynchpins is weeks away from walking. But Fox and Hurney did the same thing. They overcommitted to building a stellar defense in 2002 at the expense of the offense, finished with a mediocre record, then turned their attention to the offense the following offseason and took us to the Super Bowl with a complete team.

Maybe that's where we are. We just happened to finish with a much better than expected record (which to anyone who questions the heart of this team, we clawed our way to a 12-4 record with an above average team based on sheer will, determination and execution. And keep that in mind before showering praise on Gettleman). And next year, if we do the same thing, and overcommit to the offense, draft heavy on the offensive side, look for offensive stars in FA, we will be back with a vengeance next year.

I'm still not sold on Gettleman, but if he does with the offense this year what he did with the defense last year, I will be more than happy with him.

    • No one is allowed to criticize XL unless you want serious clap back. He’s just one of those players that is immune to criticism on this board. But sorry that I don’t expect week in and week out drops, body catching, jumping for every ball when you don’t have to, horrible spatial awareness from a 1st round WR. He has so much to work on that it’s insane these issues didn’t drop him to atleast the 3rd round during the evaluation process. To make matters worse, the best RB today was a 4th round RB we could’ve waited later for and gotten someone like Cooper DeJean who filled a need in the 2nd who a lot of posters were pounding the table for including me.
    • Keywords there "Playoff offenses".  They might be the a huge piece, but in every case there, they are not the only piece.  might be a good run game, good QB, or great coaching.  Meanwhile yes we have a good RB, but we're still like 24th in Rush YPG.  Other Recieving options?  basically all rookies.  QB?  A guy who was benched after 2 games and just now learning the NFL.  Hell we have a rookie coach.  It. Takes. Time.
    • His route running has improved as the year has gone on, but the gator arms show up every week. From all accounts he works his ass off, so let's hope he continues to do so this offseason to improve his hands catching.
