What did the Giants used to do in the draft while Gettleman was with them? I know he wasn't GM, but maybe he will use similar tactics. I haven't ever followed another teams draft strategies. It appeared he was trying to save save save in cap room and draft picks. But, perhaps he will be burning resources saved to trade up and sort out our offseason.

I trust his decisions when it comes to picking the talent. But, will be interesting to see whether or not he intends to BPA or if he's aggressive and trades up. He seems to be a personnel guru who has an insane memory of all guys coming in and thus I feel he will probably be content to sit back and take what HE considers to be the best player available. Not popular names.

Im just guessing its because watkins is local.....

he isnt panther material.

disciplined and not getting in trouble he would not last... he is a weapon but we need WRs. People who understand route running. Watkins is just a bigger ginn and more offield issues.

A long term WR that can make a difference for years to come.. Matthews... Moncfrief... Benjamin... Evans..

Plus not to mention the level ^^^ these guys play on compared to playing against ACC defenses..

Going to Blasted for this but Jordan Freaking Matthews would be the Best #2 for Smitty we have Ever had including Moose (was getting up in age with smith)

Cam is a bit of a gun slinger, he is a young QB is big upside.

We have Proehl as a WR coach

Matthews is not going to "kill the combine" "blow the scouts with his measurement"

Thank god this draft is so Stacked at WR

Matthews is a Solid athlete, but Very Very smart.  Has Very good fundamentals, Very smooth.

We see the Super athletes every year (see Ted Ginn Super senior year, killed the combine)

We see the BIG guys who make circus catches (Dwayne Jarrett)

But in this league Everyone is athletic etc.  Fundamentals get you farther than anything.   Smitty while a good Athlete, he did only run a 4.38.  While 4.38 sounds fast, there are 2-3+ guys who run that every year who can jump and are 6'0+.  What separates smith from the rest is his will and knowledge of the game.  Smith knows how to run the crisp routes to get open, block, help the QB coming back for the ball, etc etc.

Matthews has that.

Peyton Manning had a Solid WR he grew with, he best the "Best" athlete.  He was fundamentally sound and grew with Peyton

There was a Very Very good WR over in San Fran who wasnt the greatest athlete and he did wonders helping out 2 HOF gunslingers.  That Guy Mr Jerry Rice just so happens to be Matthews cousin.

I have a Feeling Matthews will Soak up what Proehl is teaching him like a Sponge, will sit down work and grow with Cam.

Agreed and we need someone to make an instant impact not a project

    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
