Time and again, when Cam has space to work and find a hole, he gets it. I've seen it here and in Auburn over and over and over.

Which is why I disagree with Rivera's approach for the second half.  Harbaugh was encouraging his guys to be agitators and keep pushing it and make the refs get involved - I believe because he knew the game was bent officiated in his favor.  So Rivera told our guys to "calm down?"  

 

We we needed to match their intensity.  When we calmed down, the wheels fell off.

 

I don't think it was as much calming down but staying focused.  Flailing around at the refs after every play doesn't do any good.

Typically I'd agree with you, but not in this case.  If we kept pushing the issue, there is no way the refs could've kept calling the game the way they were.  When we were in their face , even with the penalties, the game was close.  When we backed off the team lost their edge.

 

I think it was a catch 22. No one watching the game would have said those Refs were fair. Not even the announcers did which was a big shock to me. I think if we kept pushing we would have just got hammered some more.

Maybe it's just the anger and bitterness fading from me, but we really did overachieve so much this season. With our patchwork secondary and OL, and our absence of a consistently good running game, we had NO business being where we ended up. Hell of a year, all things considered. We can only get better, which must fuging terrify a lot of teams in this league.


We keep the core of our FA this year here and add a few more dynamic pieces in the draft and we are RIGHT back here, fellas.


The players aren't thinking that yet, but they will be soon enough once they look back. The guys like Mitchell who REALLY want to be here will be here, and those are the guys we absolutely need.
