Not just a new OC, but a new system is needed.

It's hard to have a good offense when you have a mediocre pass protecting and bad run blocking o-line and no receivers that can win on the outside except for injured Steve Smith. This is the reason that we pass between the hashes. I'm not saying that Shula is good, but he's limited in what he can do.

Screw that.  I am content to line up in formations where the casual viewer at home, much less the professional NFL defensive coach, knows what is going to happen before the ball is even snapped.  I like predictable runs for 2 yards, formations where the exact same plays happen over and over and long slow developing patterns even though most of us realize our O line can't keep Cam upright indefinitely.  Screens have been very effective so I don't want us to run more than one per half EVER and we must line up in a power running formation when we want to sneak the ball with our franchise QB.  Spreading out the defense in that situation, before sneaking it, would NEVER make any sense whatsoever.  We should telegraph every fuggin thing we do because we are so fuggin awesome that it doesn't really matter if every single mother fugger watching knows exactly whats about to happen.

You deserve pie x1000.

San Fran has Crabtree, Boldin, Davis, Patton, Manningham and possibly the best o-line in the NFL. Do you have any idea how long it would take to acquire that much talent?

New England hasn't won a Super Bowl in years. When Tom Brady won his first two Super Bowls, he was a game manager -- that was a long time ago. Belichick evolved with the game. After all, he implemented the Spread into his offense.

Seattle has the most complete defense in the league. Did you not watch that game yesterday? Lynch and LoB won that game for Seattle. If our running game and secondary were that impressive, we'd be winners too -- it's not however.

We were 12-4. #2 seed. Top ten in TDs per drive. We lost today because of missed opportunities in the red zone, despite moving the ball virtually all day.

How are we not "winners"? Because we lost today?

It is also the philosophy of Seattle and SF, as well as the philosophy of all three NE Super Bowl winners. Not to mention last years super bowl winner.

Except not, you are flat out wrong.

Last year vs the 49ers the Ravens put up 34 points....derp

In the playoffs Ravens scored...24, 38, 28, 34

Psh but who needs facts or points for that matter...10 should be good

to me the offensive identity is to KEEP POUNDING

its to be a run 1st team but we lack the push on the right side of the line to do so consistently and effectively.

Wait, didn't you just say Shula caters an offense to what the offense can do effectively?

How does that statement square with what you just said above?

If we can do it neither consistently nor effectively, why does he keep doing it again?

It's a great aspect to have when you're leading but when you're coming from behind it's a damn liability. Quick strikes are essential too. Look at the way Indianapolis caters to Luck. Granted, they have speed on offense but they're not afraid to take chances down the field. Pagano pulled a Rivera last night but there were bright spots that's gonna be giving defensive coordinators nightmares in a few years once Luck gets a defense and a running game.

Well, the Panthers flipped the script this year.

They went from a potent, big play offense, to a more methodical, time consuming one.

The Panthers need a little bit of both.

You don't think TOP and TDs per drive don't have anything to do with that?

I think that 10 points isn't going to win a lot of games. Hang on to stats tho, by all means, but they scored 10 or less 4 times this season and won only one of those, and in the that win the D didn't allow a TD. They didn't score enough points to win at Atl to wrap up the 2 seed, the D bailed them out there, too. Seems like there were several games where the O was laying an egg until the D got a score to get them back in it. They managed to put up more than 20 points on exactly one playoff team, the Patriots.

World beaters indeed.

How did that work out for Luck last night. At least they threw deep a lot.

Them catering to throwing deep and all that was why they gave up 43 points.

But, hey they had bunches of yards and a couple TDs. Who cares if your defense gets gassed and you have short drives that put them in huge holes throughout the season.

Buy they had those yards.
