Not just a new OC, but a new system is needed.

Towards the end of the year our offense struggled because Shula doesn't know how to the set the tempo and get our offense in a rhythm. Coming out in the 2nd half in a playoff game the way he called it was pitiful. Then he used up the rest of the 3rd quarter on our 2nd drive after they went up another TD. Rezone issues, another reason our offense struggled at the end of the year. On the goaline twice, go to shotgun and spread the defense out and call a draw run or let Cam jump over. Him being average is why we should move on, a better innovative minded OC would do better. We all know he would be the biggest ? and he failed. I'm not going to use weapons as THE excuse cause if we get down there something must be right, but damn this was a issue with Tampa and it still exists

now see this is what i'm talking about, you sir nailed it on the head.

my only beef with him has been his time management, and yes he is a average OC but beside Cam,Smith, and Olsen we have a below or average offensive team. And he did chew up a lot of time in the 3rd but if cam doesn't take back to back sacks we kick a field goal there, not putting the first sack on cam but the second was all on him. And finally, your right about spreading the d out and having cam run it in but that first time we were on the goaline and we went for it i though cam was going to go over the top never expected him to try and push through(didn't really matter anyway we went down next possession and scored). All in All i think we punted 2 times the whole game

All season long, we were lining up with 6 seconds left on the playclock and Cam had to rush to get the snap off with 1 second left. All freaking season. Zod talked about this as one of Shula's issues in the offseason and he was completely right.

i don't know if it's been said, but i bet if you gave shula a competent right guard, right tackle, and a number one receiver his offense would look worlds better.

i wouldn't be opposed to replacing him, but let's not pretend that's any substitute for improving a very needy roster.

The offense moved the ball fine in this game. We lost it in the red zone when once again we failed to convert td's.

This was bad play calling combined with poor execution by the OL. I would say 75% play calling and 25% execution....running it consistently into the teeth on the defense was dumb.

100% San Fran wanted it more than we did.  When it comes to the trenches, it's about will

Yep. Dunno what everyone wanted on the goal line but giving it to Cam and Tolbert is exactly what we've done all year and its worked. We just got flat out beat yesterday.

There is only one way our offense will work well with Cam at QB. You load up the o-line with Otah size linemen and you force the opposition to put 8 in the box with their LBs biting on the run, then you play action pass. If it isn't that, then it's not going to work. The reason you have to run this style of offense is because Cam is not on the level of Manning, Brady, or the other top tier QBs. If he threw as much as they did he would throw too many picks and bad passes for our offense to function. So you build a monster o-line, pound the run, and then have Cam throw into weak coverage as few times as possible, as deep as possible. That will work, and mix in his scrambling ability and you have a Super Bowl contender. Our patchwork o-line is not powerful enough with run blocking to give us a shot at advancing in the playoffs. Slow WRs only exacerbated the problem.

The opposition has been stacking the box all year. Our WR's don't get open regardless.

We won a lot of games from them getting open. The o-line is not good enough with run blocking for this team to make the Superbowl.

We won a lot of games because Cam and our defense played lights. Cam especially pulling last minute winning drives out of his ass in spite of having no playmakers, and poo play calling.

I'm all for upgrading the WR position, but as far as an offensive system goes I would add hog mollies and build a dominant rushing attack. The other side of the coin are the fans who want a lot of weapons for Cam and have him throw more.

Cam wasn't exactly playing "lights" in a lot of games this season, but it's not a black or white situation. It's grey. The WRs made some plays, and Cam made some. We certainly don't need to go game by game and list what happened. I think we agree.

The offense and identity is fine. we just need better talent which will give us better execution of the identity

The identity was a near miss.  We need to have a true power run game, with the ability to run an up tempo offense.  I hate to say this....but we need to draft a running back in the 2nd round.  I see us signing OL in FA.

I would bet good money that Gettleman is looking at hog mollies at this very moment.

    • I was going to say the Dak Prescott scramble a few years ago in the playoffs that ran out the clock before getting one final shot at the end zone. But what happened at the end of the Bears game is a new level of incompetence. Made even worse in that the Bears used two timeouts on that final drive after the prior play was an incomplete pass. That and it sounds like Eberflus tried putting some of the blame on Caleb only for Caleb to indicate he doesn't have the capability to call timeouts and that he waited 20 seconds for him to get that playcall.  My goodness, the game ended when they still had a timeout in their pocket. I can't recall a similar situation like that ever happening.
    • Those are all good guesses.  I wonder if they include incomplete passes, where it isn't on the QB.  I wish they'd publish what the big time passes were. It's helpful to learn their methods. Thanks for checking for us
