I'm watching everyones favorite game on NFLN....

The Panthers had never had a flameout in the playoffs. Sometimes teams do that. It's happened to every franchise except for the ones who never make the playoffs. My God, look at the Colts. You can take every franchise in the NFL...every single one of them...that has had great success, and you can go back through their history and find at least five stomach punch games. Don't believe me?

Pittsburgh lost at home in the AFC Championship game at least three times and maybe four under Bill Cowher. They also led the Super Bowl late against Barry Switzer's Cowboys until Neil O'Donnell gave it back to them. On top of those, they also lost many times in the first round...at home.

New England had strong teams in the late 70s but never won a playoff game. They had several gag jobs in the playoffs, and they probably have the single most heartbreaking loss in NFL history...the loss to the Giants.

Carolina fans were spoiled. They thought regular season success meant an automatic trip to the championship game. Arizona was a strong team early, struggled late in the regular season, then found themselves in the playoffs. They beat two other teams and had Pittsburgh beat in the Super Bowl, too. The Panthers didn't lose to a fluke.

Precisely.. Fans get so short sighted and focus so closely on their franchise that it's easy to say "The Colts have Manning, and we have Delhomme, that's why they have a Superbowl and we don't" And totally forget how Manning was labeled just like Marino, a great QB that just couldn't win the big one...

And yet what are we hearing? We need a QB that can get it done, too bad we don't have Manning.. Well, for a long time he couldn't get it done... Not comparing the 2 as QBs, but the logic between labels is still comparable...

Maybe Jake won't ever be able to get it done, but he's the best chance for right now and don't let 1 playoff game put you into a deep depression as I'm seeing from a lot of posters.

We'll have to wait and find out...

Glad we have a new staff on D and can't wait to see how it pans out this year and especially the year after...

Trgo was retarded. Thank jesus he's gone

yeah, he was crap. What we needed for that AZ game was a defensive minded HC that could have sat in on the defensive meetings for the majority of the season and had the team prepared with a good gameplan for the playoff game and Larry Fitz......oh, wait.....nevermind.

I thought we were right on track that first qtr. We had 60 yds rushing in the 1st 15 minutes, then (I believe) Fox goes into panic mode and tries to get Jake to air it out. Defensively I don't know what the hell was going on, they sucked all night.

Neither did Trgo or the rest of the defense, particularly the secondary. Trgo's look of utter bewilderment was captured on national TV while Fitzgerald was running wild during the 1st quarter. IMO that look pretty much summed up the entire 2nd half of last season, as the defense seemed to be incapable of stopping anybody. Looking forward to the rematch.

Anyone remember this play....it was our 2nd drive I believe where we ran a running play on both 2nd and 3rd down. The play on 2nd down went nowhere and then we ran it again on 3rd and had to punt. I had a bad feeling from then on....I just remember saying to myself on 3rd down....dont run the ball!! Everything went to shyt after that

Yes, that was our standard "play to punt the ball" offense that we employ whenever we are backed up within our own 20 yd line. I had the same feeling you had when I saw that. The beginning of the end. Several commentators commented throughout the season on our "shrinking playbook" whenever we're backed up against our own goal line, and I can only hope that Fox will somewhat change this approach next season.

They were underdogs against the Giants and Bears and won both of those games. By flameout I meant postseason as a whole. All three previous times the Panthers made the playoffs, they did very well for themselves. I think the only two times they were ever favored before Arizona were the two Dallas games, and I bet both of those were very close to pick'em. The first year Dallas was the defending Super Bowl champ, the second time they had beaten Carolina earlier.

Seahawks game was not a flameout. That game was lost the prior week when DeShaun Foster was injured.

Third straight game on the road, down to starting Jamal Robertson at runningback, three (and sometimes four) defenders committed to Steve Smith, and only Drew Carter and Keary Colbert as pass catching alternatives.

That's not a flameout. We just didn't have the personnel.

    • Corbett knows he needs to take a prove it deal and I think he will.  I watched an interview and he was convincingly adamant he wants to stay.  Two different injuries in two years was bad luck.  It's not like it was the same thing.  He knows the game and figures to end his career in a place where he is happy.  You can't really compare how Bryce did with Mays compared to AC.  AC was hurt week 5.  Bryce was on the bench after week 2 and didn't return until week 8. Mays is basically under team control next year as a RFA.  We could offer the right of first refusal for 3m.  I'd offer a 2 year deal which averages a little higher so you can manipulate the cap on his deal.  Additionally, I'd resign Corbett to a team friendly deal.  Many forget he has positional versatility like BC.  Corbett is only one year older, is two inches shorter, about 10 pounds heavier, and has arms that are one inch longer.  Corbett has played LT in college and guard/center in the NFL.  Ideally, bring back all three, but if BC gets big time $$$ AC and CM can battle for center and the other becomes a swing lineman. If we cut bait on Yosh Nijman we may be able to keep all three.  I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat.
    • As fans, we often exaggerate how bad our team owner is because we are so invested and focused on our team. We don't really see how bad other team owners, like Woody Johnson or Robert Kraft, because we are focused on the Panthers.
