My guess is that was a designed play and #39 is a dumbass for running a route downfield instead of staying behind Colston to keep it legal. Colston turned immediately away looking for the throw as if it was designed and once he turned away from the sideline with a defender bearing down on him and saw his target running downfield he panicked and chucked it anyways.

Also, is it just me or did he also seem to be in pretty good position to make that cb miss and have a foot race with the out of position safety to the end zone?

If that was the design of the play then Payton is a moron for calling it given the situation. Colston threw it with 7 seconds remaining.
