I continue to hear about the first meeting, and it is referenced a lot for this game. There are some significant changes for the 49ers from the first matchup, but I'm not sure Panthers fans are aware of all of them. Here are a few:

1.) Crabtree is back. This one is obvious.

Kaepernick 11 games before Crabtree's return:

Record: 7-4

Attempts/Completions: 156/275

Yards: 2037

Yards Per Game: 185.18

TDs: 14

INTs: 7

Pass Rating: 86

Rush Yards: 355

Avg Yards Per Rush: 5.5

Yards Per Game: 32

TDs: 3

6 games since:

Record: 6-0

Attempts/Completions: 103/171

YDS: 1387 yds

Yards Per Game: 231

TDs: 8

INTs: 2

Pass Rating: 95

Rush Yds: 267

Rush Avg:  12.7yds

Yards Per Game: 45

TDs: 1

2.) Vernon Davis.

Played just 22 snaps in first game. He will be full strength for this one.

3.) Aldon Smith.

Played 12 snaps in the first one with his head in a million different places (see: facing gun charges). Is healthy and mentally back for this one.

What makes this one interesting is that Dan Skuta - Smith's backup and a special teamer from the Bengals that we signed in the offseason - had his best game of the year against the Panthers. Will be interesting to see what Smith can do this time around.

4.) Bruce Miller.

He's on the IR for the season, but was rated the leagues 2nd best blocking FB before getting hurt. Not only does this hurt the running game, but he also caught a lot of balls out of the backfield. He was an outlet for Kaepernick, registering around 300 yards receiveing before getting hurt. He has been replaced by Will Tukuafu on runniung downs, who has been a surprisingly  good run blocker (even a PFF secret superstar this week https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/01/08/secret-superstars-wild-card-round/), but struggles in pass protection. And Anthiny Dixon, who has surprisingly nice hands, but isn't the blocker Tukuafu is.

5.) Carlos Rogers.

49ers Slot corner. Looks to be out this game with a hamstring injury, which is usually a bad thing, but Rogers had one of his worst games of the year vs the Panthers, and 49ers didn't play a lot of Nickel vs Panthers in game one. In Nickel/Dime just 34% of plays.

6.)  Eric Reid.

One of 3 concussions he's suffered this year was vs Panthers. The kid is talented and still learning to play at the NFL level. He missed most of the 2nd half with this game and was replaced by (gasp) Craig Dahl. Reid's improved since this game and will hopefully not lead with his head again when trying to tackle Mike Tolbert.

So, those are the changes in the 49ers I've noticed since the first meeting, what have Panthers fans noticed in the team that's changed since the first meeting.

And here, I'll just post a few things here to get them out of the way so that we can focus on the subject:

*No one is giving Pathers a chance, we winzzz by a landslidezzz!!!*

*Cam >>>>>>>>>>>>> Kap, we winzz!*

*Kap can't go through his progressions!*

*Crabtree won't make that much of a difference, we haz the best D in da univerzzzeee!!*

*YOUR ENTIRE TEAM IS GAY AND FROM SF LULZ, GTFO!!!!!!*

That outta at least get us started.

Cheers, fellas.

The only differences between the two games is.

1. This one will be more physically violent

2. We beat the niners at home

All this talk about how much better San Fran is this time?! I know it's been mentioned before but not any specifics.....three weeks earlier against the Cardinals:

Kap 250+ yards passing

Gore 100+ yards rushing

Davis 180 yds receiving

....they then blew out the titans and jaguars in similar fashion. So by better they are expecting their production to be better than that time frame?! Really?!

The Cardinals (at that time), Titans and Jags were not very good when we played them. We weren't having trouble beating up bad teams w/o Crabtree. However, the Panthers are obviously not a bad team.

It was a two point game in the fourth quarter during the Cardinals game! By your standards your whole team deserves comeback of the year! So Kap, Gore, and the Rec core will have to produce better than then if they want to change the outcome. But no worries man, they are def talking themselves and everyone else into it. The problem is they aren't the Broncos that can willing go out and produce 450 yds of offense, but boy are they trying hard to convince themselves what they are not.

I'm confused on how I set up this standard..? My point was that we weren't inept w/o Crabtree on offense unless we played elite defenses like Seattle or Carolina. We still functioned and won games.  However, he adds a new dimension to our offense which makes the opponent focus on more things. I was just pointing out that we are a better offense with him. Obviously we don't have an offense like Denver. Our offense is not elite by any means.

My point is, if you think by adding Crabtree increases Kap's passing yards by even just 50 yards that would mean you would better your performance in the previous games to a total offensive production of 400yds. Simple math: 250 Kap passing + 100 Gore rushing + 50 hypo increase for Crab = 400. The problem is SF doesn't average 400 yds of offense period, it doesn't matter who they bring out. The best offenses in the league have a hard time averaging those numbers with all of their weapons, much less against a top 5 D. It goes further to prove that SF was in fact playing very good offense in their first meeting, they just didn't match up well with the Panthers. The front seven is too much for the line of San Fran, so much so Kap can't take advantage of the weaker of the two in the DBs.

If a healthy Steve Smith was cloned and added to the lineup would that make no meaningful difference either? Adding a legitimate #1 target when playing a top defense is an important upgrade. It isn't just about adding some random number to our overall yards. Colin has only thrown 2 picks in the six games that Crab has played. He is more efficient and productive with regards to scoring and third downs in the last six games.

You won by 3 the last game of the season at Arizona in this "better" offense everyone is talking about putting up 393 yards. But you had just 350 yards 10 weeks earlier against the same team at home. So you are 43 yards better, maybe not even that when comparing home field, than when you played us last. I will take that at our place with our improvements all day!

Arizona was fighting for their playoff lives and had won ~7 in a row and had just beaten Seattle in Seattle. Arizona's defense late in the season was one of the top in the league and they were playing great football. I don't see it as a negative that we only won by three.

You are putting too much emphasis on overall passing yards. Adding a receiver of Crabs caliber (he isn't Megatron but he is a legit #1 target) doesn't allow the opposing defense to dominate the niners by just shutting down vernon and Anquan. We wont become Denver, but it makes the niners harder to shut down.

The answer to your thread is simple: the Niners won't keep it as close this time. Panthers 24, Niners 17. Next question.

he should have had 3 in the GB game. one when the game was on the line. unfortunately GB's defense was riddled with injuries. also they weren't very good to begin with.
