Panther Football

I take the snap from the center, fake to the right, fade back...
I've got protection. I've got a receiver open downfield...
What the hell is this? This isn't a football, it's a shoe, a man's
brown leather oxford. A cousin to a football maybe, the same
skin, but not the same, a thing made for the earth, not the air.
I realize that this is a world where anything is possible and I
understand, also, that one often has to make do with what one
has. I have eaten pancakes, for instance, with that clear corn
syrup on them because there was no maple syrup and they
weren't very good. Well, anyway, this is different. (My man
downfield is waving his arms.) One has certain responsibilities,
one has to make choices. This isn't right and I'm not going
to throw it.

Illeterate cockburglar,

Wearer of Dolphin hats.

Give no credit to the Panther defense

That held you to humiliating stats.

History will repeat itself,

And as your smug ass slumps slowly off the field,

Fans will cheer.  You're eyes will tear,

Your sphinkter will pucker with fear.

For you will have learned the truth:

The Panthers are here.

seperate work:

As the black and blue crowd

Celebrate success,

There's one fan so sad, so caught in distress.

Why is it she cries when the Panther's have won?

Why do tears soak her face

Why does she turn from the sun?

Is it perhaps, though the stats she may skew,

The Saints* implode on the road

And she lost all she knew.

But who is Dat? So alone in this place.

Sitting so Fat, with Dat greasy rapist's face.

She'll compile some stats,

She'll make a wall of excuses,

She'll ignore the facts,

But Alejandro still loses.

As I don my silver black and blue,

I'm overcome by a pride that is felt by few

My superstitions in check my resolve like steel

I await the kickoff with a frightful zeal

From the foot of Gano the ball flies high

As I roar like a panther who won't be denied

I steady my heart, the only weapon I wield

As our mighty defense takes the field

They pound, they crush they battle for glory

Writing their very own Superbowl story

None can escape their insatiable need

When the Kraken is hungry the Kraken will feed

With their enemies battered our defense is done

And onto the field flies the true number one

With legs like Hermes and an arm like Zeus

He evades all comers and sets the ball loose

It soars through the heavens on wings of myth

This comet comes down to the demigod Smith

With guile and and skill unmatched by all

He crosses the plane and seems ten feet tall

A celebration later and the game is over

I release my horseshoe and four leaf clover

The win was amazing, the victory astounding

The most important lesson learned was just

KEEP POUNDING

Redemption

Fellow Huddlers lend an ear,

for a tale you've yet to hear,

close we've come once before,

a kick was botched and closed that door,

self pity, we were consumed,

hope gone, an open wound,

a hapless void lingers still,

a destiny we've yet to fulfill,

jaded and vacant, a hero needed,

as true fans we prayed and pleaded,

as fate had it, hope remained,

revealing itself one April day,

1 overall we rolled the dice,

casting aside "expert" advice,

so this is where it all began,

witnessing the birth of Superman,

pursuing the answer, the bottom line,

our hero sought guidance from 89,

a noble protector staying close,

in the form of Jordan Gross

this trio is nothing without a heart,

Thomas Davis, a crucial part,

luck forsaken no chance of fluke,

fortune provided our brother Luke,

myth and lore taking no small roll,

releasing the Kraken to aid our goal,

something absent not yet complete,

a skipper to lead this motley fleet,

lacking neither guts nor brawn,

we found our leader in Riverboat Ron,

a storm lay dormant, don't be mistaken,

our foundation strong and faith unshaken,

the Panther growls, our foes tremble,

a certain year does this resemble,

this journey has but one intention,

we won't be stopped on our ascension,

Sam Mill's will won't be held at bay,

felt in the air throughout BOA,

so show your pride and watch and see,

as we cement our place in history,

immortality within reach, the legend resounding,

the human spirit will always Keep Pounding.

These were among the best...

**EDIT** Not sure if the post was within the initial "rules", but damn PhillyB stole the show with that poem and illustration masterpiece...

Philly you are not a ginger? wtf?  Water colors get blurry after 8 hours of working?

$.95 walmart water colors are cheap bullshit, all the hues turn completely different when you add water. i had to struggle to keep the 49ers jerseys from being pink

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
