IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO SHULA

Recommended Posts

yeah cause shula's responsible for dwill fumbling, or for bell getting beat like a drum, or for lafell dropping/running bad routes..........he's also responsible for cam throwing high as well

be real dudes play calling is fine, some of you want us to blow-out the 49ers because your scared of playing a close game, well guess what it's the play-offs it's not going to be easy. You guys are quick to throw shula under bus and are ready to bring up his pass if one thing goes wrong. we have a efficient offense because we don't have the o line or receivers to blow good defenses away.

The whole point of the offense is to score more points.  In every Shula thread it keeps coming down to people wanting us to rack up tons of yards.  Throw down the field yada yada. Yards don't matter.  Points do.

  • We score more points per game this year than last year. Last year was Chud btw.
  • We have less turnovers than last year.
  • We have much better TOP and sustained drives.

I bet when Shula was interviewed he was probably told... We need to have less turnovers and have more sustained drives.  Why are people wanting us to not play to our strengths is beyond me.  It's like you all got drunk on Cam's rookie season and refuse to acknowledge that it may not be the best way to win with our current team.  Every O coordinator makes questionable calls.  Sean Peyton who is regarded as one of the best playcallers in the league has been questioned a lot this year.

I don't even like Shula that much but it's like I feel forced to defend him because tbh it's not his fault.

Since 09 these how our top 3 picks in every draft on the offensive side have looked.

Jimmy Clausen, Brandon Lafell, Armanti Edwards

Cam Newton

Edmond Kugbila

Other than Cam that's a Pu Pu Platter.  The cupboards are bare.

I don't have an issue with the lower ranking because I feel that has to do with ball control.  What I have an issue about is multiple 3 and outs in a row.  This is play calling, this is not knowing any decent plays for the defensive scheme.   Shula can and MUST come up with a game plan that will allow us to control the clock and put points up.

The SF defense can be had if Shula has good game plan.

and of course.... WE EXECUTE.

If it's a 3rd and 8 and Shula calls the play and the ball hits the receiver in the hands 10 yards down the field and he drops it. How is that play calling?

If it's 2nd and 6 and the checkdown is 4 yards down the field wide open and the QB throws the ball over his head how is that play calling?

If it's 3rd and 2 and your RT gets a false start penalty to put you in 3rd and 7.  Then your QB drops backs to pass and your RG lets a DT go through like its a walkthrough, how is that play calling?

1 and 10 and you drop back to pass and your only viable threat a TE who is double covered half the game. The other 2 options is a very fast receiver who if he gets jammed can't recover and a big possesion receiver who gets a case of the dropsies every 3rd game. Is that play calling or does it mean you don't have weapons.

You call a run play and there is 0 holes and the only success you have is when you either pull your LG or center. The problem is the second your guard or center even looks like he is pulling the defenses key on it.  However you can't really call anything else because your RG and RT are unreliable to consistently sustain their blocks.  The only other option is to go full read option (misdirection) but that gets your franchise QB licked.  What is Shula supposed to do? Completely abandon the run game?

Going for the wildcat once a game for no apparent reason is play calling.

3rd and 10 running a draw play is play calling.

People not catching, blocking or throwing the ball properly is EXECUTION!!!!!

When you don't have weapons you have to execute to be successful.  Shula does make some questionable calls but the difference between scoring 13 and 30 usually comes down to a few plays.   Those are the plays that are killing the offense right now.  It's not Shula's fault.  He calls the plays and the players must make the plays.  He is not a revolutionary beyond the box mad genius but he is also not incompetent like people are trying to make him out to be.  Everyone acts like Shula is holding the offense back.  He is doing his best to hide all the deficiencies.  Cam is masking how atrocious our OL play is.  When we execute on a consistent basis the offense looks fine.  When we don't it looks horrible.  ITS NOT THE PLAY CALLING!!!

You can't drive your car at a brick wall at 90 miles per hour, hit the brakes 1 foot out, and say "Well the brakes didn't execute" when you hit the wall. People trying to give Shula a pass in favor of 'execution' are kidding themselves. The offensive coordinator has to call plays that the team can execute. Shula has done that at certain points this year, and at other points he has failed miserably.

See you keep switching back to execution and my original post said providing we execute.

While some of those three and outs were execution errors some were play calling.  Shula is not immune to our errors.

I am not sure why people are questioning Shula still. Our offense did sputter some down the stretch but that has a lot to do with playing 3 Ryan family defenses the last 4 games. Most days those guys will make any offense sputter.

The fact is that even though total yardage was low we still finished top 10 in almost all the important offensive stats.

We were top 10 in:

Points per drive

TDs per drive

Red Zone TD %

Fewest turnovers per drive

Plays per drive

TOP per drive

Drive success rate

I mean, there is room to improve, but our offense has been pretty good this year. And I think 10 of our 16 games were against top half of the NFL defenses.

I would rather be top 10 in efficiency stats than total yardage stats

Shula definitely needs to bring his A game. But that's not the only thing this game boils down to. Cam needs to have gotten rid of his high throws, we can't afford turnovers by anyone, for any reasons. We certainly can't afford it as results of high throws. Our secondary needs to be on point and follow through with their coverages. Kap will get out of the pocket and his WR'S will keep working when he does. Our front 4 needs to bring heat, create pressure, sacks fumbles and havoc. We need to plan for V Davis, Kuechly can't cover him. With this said, I Love Our Chances! Panthers, Let's Get It...

Bottom-line, It will take a perfect game from the Panthers, players and coaches.

They can do it.  Cam seems very composed and determined in his interviews and Rivera seems almost calmly confident.  It's interesting to watch and listen to their interviews.

Either way, the team and coaches deserve a lot of credit.  They got here.  They battled all year.  They didn't quit.  They won  all those games, except one, that the 'talking heads' said they would lose.  Who knows, maybe they will prove the talking heads wrong again.

I'll be there, section 342, Panthers  side, 35 yard line  and be grateful that I have the opportunity to be.

Shula needs to get inventive because San Fran will fill the box every or most plays so the run game will be stuffed, also te receivers need to show up especially lafell! I read somewhere he ranks 84th out of 94 active receivers in the league it's just not good enough! If he's not looking good early either with drops or getting open I say put hixon in because there will be no second chances in this game! It's go win or go home.

Donald is a great blocker and that is why he is on the field. That will keep him there
