Charlotte Shopping Ben Gordon, Trying To Win Now (Other News)

Recommended Posts

I am still on that boat.

This is the last year I wanted to tank.

I felt like this draft was apart of the plan all along.

Seemes like we lost our patience.

To be clear, which boat?  The "let's win this year," or "I don't want to win yet, let's still tank"?

It's not all about free agency... it's about cap relief. A lot of people aren't aware of this but this is the first year that the Bobcats have gone into the luxury tax... Most small market teams don't like spending money which is why a small market team could easily decide to trade a bad contract or a couple of bad contracts to get some cap relief.

Gordon's contract could also be super helpful to a team that is trying to tank (L.A. Lakers, Chicago, Toronto).

Gordon's contract might be able to pry Boozer from Chicago.

We're above the cap but about $10 mil UNDER the tax line.

And no cancers please, we don't need Smith. Stay the course, hopefully we keep our pick and get Detroit's too (currently 9th).

With the repeater tax looming, teams should be more willing to take on expirings like Gordon. If not, oh well, between he and Sessions that's $18 mil + in space for FA.

The boat that wants to tank.  I guess then technically it would be a "tanker"

I wanted to tank as well until we got the right pieces through the draft.  But, we haven't gotten those pieces and then we signed Big Al.  Sooo, understanding that the FO has decided to win this year, my approach is...  go out and win.  And honestly, I'm at the point that being that we haven't drafted well anyway, and Cho is good with trades, might as well go all in, use the picks we've accumulated and trade for a young player already in the league that has a lot of promise and is somewhat proven.  I'm starting to feel like that is the only way we're going to get the "superstar" we need.  I can't think of a specific example of a guy like that off the top of my head right now, but in general, think Paul George his rookie season.  He barely played, and I'm pretty sure if a team had thrown multiple first rounders as them, they would've moved him.

I didn't want to tank before we decided to, but I knew we had to in order to get better, so I embraced it.  But as I said, they changed the approach when they signed Big Al.  Now they're blatantly letting it be known that they want to win and go to the playoffs NOW.  So, we have no say in the matter.  I just figure, I may as well look at the options that would help us do it and hope we go all in with that direction.  Better to have a sense of direction than teetering between them and having none at all, I guess...  At least that's my outlook now.  We're going to have to accept they want to make moves to win now and hope for the best.

I'd honestly like us to be sellers at the deadline.  Maybe pair MKG and Gordon, for another asset.

I wanted us to bottom out this year, and rebuild with one mega draft.

I don't feel like Jordan had to make us competitive this year to build any good will.

Everyone was already so excited for the hornets, a weak playoff team was not necessary

I really think I pretty much have close to the same mindset.

If we are going to go for it, then fug it, go for it!

But I mean, load up all our assets anything and go for someone who can really change some poo up.

Problem is... there is no one worth giving up assets. IMO.

I just get the feeling that MJ is trying to sell the fans with being a "contender/playoffs" team before rebranding to the Hornets. What he doesnt get is it's not going to work well especially after getting swept by the Pacers or Heat in the Playoffs.

We Hornets fans want to go into the Hornets era with a players from the draft that they can sell to us. That will draw more attention.

J.R. Smith is not exactly the guy that they can sell to us.

My God.

If I could only have a Parker, Wiggins, Randle, Hornets jersey.

I would be so happy.

If we are really serious about "winning now", why not go after a guy that we Hornets fans can embrace? And, someone who MJ/Cho can really "sell" to us?? Somone like an Eric Gordon or Evan Turner? Sure, they're going to cost us something, but still. I would rather send them a player and multiple picks for a Gordon or Tuner, than going cheap after an idiot. Plain and simple.

I was getting behind the idea of Arron Afflalo.

He was a younger scorer that didn't seem like he was going to cost the world.

Seems like that rumor was bs though.

Charlotte

Trades Ben Gordon and Bismack Biyombo

Boston

Trades Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, and Marshon Brooks

Boston sheds salary and adds an expiring. Boston knows they can lure free agents. Celtics also get a young big man to continue to develop. Biz and Sullinger could compliment each other well.

Charlotte adds Green and Bass to starting lineup. This would be a pretty nice upgrade to the starting core. Brooks gives them scoring off the bench and is still young and can continue to develop.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
