Charlotte Shopping Ben Gordon, Trying To Win Now (Other News)

Ben Gordon Being Shopped

The Charlotte Bobcats are shopping Ben Gordon, according to league sources. They have talked to many teams about the veteran guard and are trying to move Gordon's $13,200,000 ending contract for a player who helps them win now. Charlotte has played well this season and currently sits in the East's seventh seed. They're expected to be buyers at the deadline, because they want to make the playoffs for just the second time in franchise history. Sulia

MKG Could Return January 14th

The Bobcats are targeting an important stretch of games in the middle of the month, possibly as soon as Jan. 14, for the return of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist from a fractured left hand, coach Steve Clifford said. “Next weekend we’re at Minnesota, at Chicago, and we’re hoping to have him back after that,” Clifford said Saturday night at Sleep Train Arena, where Charlotte beat the Kings to close an otherwise-disappointing 1-4 trip. Under that scenario, Kidd-Gilchrist would rejoin the team for the Jan. 14 home game against the Knicks, a particularly welcome addition at a time the defense is slipping after previously leading the Bobcats into the playoff conversation. His contract would be the only reason someone would want him.

He has a $13.2 million dollar expiring contract... that is golden.

Golden, yes. But I said I don't think it brings "that much". The only teams that could want the contract would be teams with eyes on FA next season. Big markets more than likely. Outside of Pau, I can't think of players now that Deng is gone. Maybe could get a late late 1st rounder this year, but at what price? A Kendrick Perkins type contract we have to eat?

It's not all about free agency... it's about cap relief. A lot of people aren't aware of this but this is the first year that the Bobcats have gone into the luxury tax... Most small market teams don't like spending money which is why a small market team could easily decide to trade a bad contract or a couple of bad contracts to get some cap relief.

Gordon's contract could also be super helpful to a team that is trying to tank (L.A. Lakers, Chicago, Toronto).

Gordon's contract might be able to pry Boozer from Chicago.

Last I read, their plan it seems is to amnesty Boozer in the offseason. Not to mention, I can't see Charlotte bringing in Boozer when they drafted Zeller and further limit his development. If there could be some provision about keeping the 1st rounder we owe them, I'd be all for it though. But, with it becoming unprotected in a couple years, probably a hundred percent chance the Bulls nix that idea from any deal.

Ummmm that makes no sense...

Why amnesty him (you still owe him his money and have to pay him his money) when you can get an expiring contract and actually save money.

While the trade may limit Zeller at first, in the long run it would help because he would get to learn from Boozer for the remainder of this year and next year then the Cats could let Boozer walk in free agency and let Zeller take over.

By the way... the Bulls are most likely getting that pick this year anyway.

As for trading Gordon for Pau... talks would not get far because we would have to add a contract for the salaries to match and I guarantee they would ask for MKG.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
