I heard there's only been two home dogs in the divisional round of the playoffs. One of them.....that's right the 1996 Carolina Panthers. It's all good to have big name players and a history of success. But when the Panther D knocks you in the mouth all that goes out the window.

Imagine how big name our players would be if they were else where. Fact of the matter is, we have gotten the most publicity we have had in years but the sentiment of most hasn't changed. Doubt.

San Francisco (12-4) at Carolina (12-4), 1:05 p.m. ET (Fox): These two teams are literally mirror images of each other. It likes watching two identical twins fight, although I don't know that for sure because I've never seen two identical twins fight. The Panthers No. 2 ranked defense was slightly better during the regular season than the 49ers fifth-ranked defense. On the other hand, San Francisco's 24th ranked offense was slightly better than Carolina's 26th ranked unit. When I feel like two teams are exactly even, I like to pick the team with the better quarterback. And I think the better quarterback is: 49ers 20-17 over Panthers.

That idiot is also picking the Colts and Saints to win....not a chance.

Sports media.....a what have you done for me lately thought process. Teams that just played get media bumps

Nothing overly impressive about the Saints or 49ers.....both almost lost to weak playoff teams on reality.

From the San Francisco Chronicle today:

Niners’ late-game magic could run out in Carolina

The way the 49ers have either pulled out wins or saved leads in the last two minutes of play is reminiscent of the 1970 Raiders, who were often saved by the late-game heroics of George Blanda. But the comparison ends there. The Raiders were an old team which had to be rebuilt the next year. The 49ers are a much better team.

But the question remains: Are they good enough to advance further in the NFC postseason?

They’ll face a big challenge in Charlotte, N.C., on Sunday when they face the Carolina Panthers.

When the Panthers played at Candlestick on Nov. 10, they emerged with a 10-9 win in a game that was painful to watch. Both quarterbacks, the Panthers’ Cam Newton and the 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick, were dismal. Newton was terrible in the early going, though he hit some passes late as the Panthers scored the game’s only touchdown.

Where's the story?1660422.png1 Points Mentioned

I have no idea what Newton’s problems were, but Kaepernick has often struggled against good defensive teams. He didn’t face one two days ago in Green Bay. The Packers did not have a strong defense during the season, and they went into this game without linebacker Clay Mathews, their best defender. Then, they lost defensive players to injuries during the game, injuries that certainly weren’t helped by the frozen turf.

Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers tried gambling strategies, sometimes blitzing, sometimes showing blitz, then having defenders drop back in coverage.

That sometimes worked — Kaepernick was sacked three times for a loss of 13 yards Sunday — but other times, Kaepernick took advantage of the weak spots, usually by running.

Even then, he had some problems. Early in the second quarter, with absolutely no pressure on him, he threw an interception which stopped a 49ers drive and seemed to inspire the Packers, who drove down field for a touchdown.

But Kaepernick and the Niners caught a huge break on their last drive when a Packers defensive back dropped a would-be interception. Had he hung on, it would have been the Packers with a dramatic end-of-the-game score to win it.

That’s how close the two teams were, with one decisive break determining winner and loser, and it’s also a cautionary tale for 49ers fans this next weekend, when they’ll be facing a tough defensive team on the Panthers’ home field.

The Panthers started slowly with three losses in their first four games but they’ve only lost once since then, to the Saints in New Orleans, a loss they avenged with a victory at home that secured a division title and the same 12-4 record as the 49ers.

Like Kaepernick, Newton is a multi-talented quarterback who is dangerous running the ball or passing it. They’re both in their third pro year, though they came to their teams in much different fashion: Newton was the first pick in the 2011 draft and the immediate starter while Kaepernick was a second-round pick by the Niners who backed up Alex Smith initially.

Kaepernick has already been to one Super Bowl. This is Newton’s first real chance to get to one, though the Seattle Seahawks will probably block his way.

But not the Niners. Their miracle finishes will end Sunday in Charlotte.

Why is no one talking about a west coast team traveling 3 time zones for a 1 kick off. This is a big deal.

It's not like they're flying in Sunday morning. They'll be here Saturday, probably. If they're smart. So, while they might still be a bit jet-lagged, they won't be as worn out as if they had flew in early Sunday and had a layover or two.

West Coast teams always fly in on Sat....and the statistics clearly prove that they struggle when playing 1PM games in the Eastern Time Zone

Its wild. I can't even watch the media anymore. Ive seen all the segments they will show all week on espn/nfl network ect.

Somethings just so fuging fishy about the 49ers.... owners/coach.. sketch

but Its completely funny they show maybe 3 highlights.. and end on the INT when they are on their on 15 with 30 seconds to go like they were going to score on that drive anyway?

Show us dominating the line and finding Kaep OFTEN.

They say it was an off day for him... and that this a new team. That game was the first "big" game for us.. no one expected us to win then. We went out and beat them. I believe we can beat them by a bigger score this time. More than anything I want to score points from D.. fumbles.. INT.. anything to shut down the offense
