nfl to increase # of wildcard spots in the playoffs

Recommended Posts

If that's your gripe, then I'd rather them realign the divisions to make it where a team with a less than 10 win record won't make it in, but don't add an extra playoff slot so the Cowgirls have a chance at making it in. That's ridiculous.

Yeah it's not a perfect system. But I don't think it's for the cowboys exclusively. Who knows, maybe this slot gets us in the playoffs next year.

You know...what we COULD do is a points system like the NHL.

Win gets you 2 points in the standings. OT guarantees both teams one point, win in OT gets you 2. Top points leaders at end of season get in. Keep seeding as it is right now. Would've got Arizona in and kept GB out (8-7-1 record should mean you're sitting at home, IMO).

That works when you have 48 games. The cream rises to the top.

In the NFL there is too much variance around 16 games to get a good reading on who is good and who is bad. So we make a determination based on divisions which makes much more sense.

From what I have been hearing it's Cowboys owner Jerry Jones pushing the idea. I suppose he thinks that's the only way the annual 8-8 Cowboys have a chance to make the playoffs

It has always been and always will be what's best for Jerry Jones, the Cowboys and more money ,in his mindset and actions, the rest of the NFL be damned.

This is stupid.  Why stop at 7, why not 8?  I mean if we want a NBA style watered down post-season then why not go all-in?  I swear, one of these years some crappy 8-8 team with someone like Josh McCown is going to get hot and win the Super Bowl.  Then the NFL will tell us that a crappy team winning is proof of the NFL a great league.
