Tenn. DUI checkpoint video

Kid was within his rights, cops got pissed because he wouldn't obey them...

Kid was trying to make a point and the cops kind of walked into to.

If you're driving, I think it's reasonable for cops to ask for your drivers license and registration since those documents are required for driving.

Had this been an adult, the cops probably wouldn't have given him a hard time... Maybe... Well, unless he was non-white.

Yea, because asking him to roll down his window was such an intrusion.

Guy intended to be an ass and he accomplished his task.

He is wasting everyone's time including those behind him waiting in line.

Lol. Wasting time? The cops were the ones wasting peoples time, stopping everyone without reasonable suspicion. The dude played it almost perfectly. The cops tactics worked and the kid got a little spooked. I wouldn't have gotten out of the vehicle.

No it wasn't much of an intrusion... But by law all you're required to do is communicate with the officers so that they can see you're sober. They didn't have a reasonable suspicion that he wasn't sober, they were just pissed off at him. The kid was trying to make a point but the cops decided that they were going to make one too. This is exactly the kind of attitude (by the cops) that makes people wary of them.

The sensible thing for them to do was to talk to the kid thru the cracked window, politely explain that it's better for everyone if he is more cooperative and once they see he's sober and just trying to film them/make a point, tell him to move on.

I love how kids like this think these checkpoints have never been adjudicated by the SCOUS and their constitutionality established.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan_Dept._of_State_Police_v._Sitz

By a 6-3 decision the court held that these stops are "reasonable search and seizure" and that brief questioning to establish suspicion or lack thereof was permissible.

The kid is a Dickbag with a camera and no respect or regard for others.

That's why the cops changed their tune the minute they saw the camera. If they knew they had done everything by the book, they would not have done the 180 once they found the camera or cell phone or whatever. I would almost guarantee if a local media outlet was filming this the cops behavior would have been much different.

Cops were trying to do their jobs in keeping drunk drivers off the road. Guy was a complete douchenozzles.

Then why didn't they ask the most obvious, and usually the very first, question: Have you had anything to drink tonite? The cops never even so much as mentioned the reason for the checkpoint- they simply began telling the kid to roll down the window and it escalated from there. Never got to the part about it being a DUI checkpoint, never asked any questions related to drinking and driving. The kid baited the cops and the cops took it hook, line and sinker.

He was ordered to pull the car over, he was no longer in line.

The problem with a lot of cops is the minute you don't lock-step obey and, without hesitation or question, do exactly as they say, they think you're being disrespectful and you're guilty of every unsolved crime they have on the books.

The fact of the matter is this kid was not being disrespectful, he wasn't being a smart-ass, he was simply asking questions the cops could not or would not answer and they got pissed and lost control of the situation. "Oh yeah? You don't want to roll down your window more than the 6" it's already down? We'll show you..."

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
