1st Round TE?

Rules&Regulations

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of the upcoming draft and our needs. I'd list our top needs as OT, WR, CB, with OT and WR kinda 1a and 1b. Now, assuming we don't trade up and are drafting near the bottom of the 1st round, the likelihood of one of the top LT or WR prospects being available for us aren't that great. We could likely get a good RT prospec there, but we could just as easily upgrade over Bell in the second or third, and CB prospects are so hit or miss seemingly no matter where you draft them.

So why not go for a TE? Chances are that one of the 3 first round TEs will be available, and being able to run more 2 TE sets will help both our passing and blocking. I think Amaro or Ebron could be great fits, and word was that we had our eye on one of the TEs last year before star fell in our laps.

What say you?

If one of the top three are there, Ebron, Sefarian-Jenkins, or Amaro are there?  And an OT that is not an immediate starter is not available?  Hell yes, take the TE (or WR).

I think we should aquire a tight end in FA and trade up for Ebron. We could snag an OT in later rounds as a project. Our Oline should be healthy at that point and we can slide who need to weak points.

Obviously, I agee with the conversion comment below. Plus, Ebron would make an exceptional blocking wr. Allowing us to free up LaFell.

We could also use dual TE sets to disguise the pass.

Ebron can be converted to a WR if they want to. Ebron would be come the next Moose. The guy is tall with good hands and catch good, but he ain't speed guy tho. Only problem right there.. But a TE is the least of our worries right now. We need a star WR right now. Not a TE. We hav Olsen and Hartsock right now. DG and Ron needs to focus more at the holes we need to fill. TE is not a need. Top WR and a few olineman are the main needs with the first 3 picks of the draft.

Ebron is a TE.  He is not playing WR except if he splits out wide in 4 wide sets.

Look, I'm a UNC fan, but UNC is notorious for exaggerating 40 times.  The fastest claimed 40 I've seen for Ebron is 4.57.  You can usually safely add close to two tenths to whatever 40 time UNC claims, so that makes Ebron a mid-4.7s guy.  He's not a burner, but he's a damn good receiving TE who is more dangerous with his strength and tackle breaking ability after the catch than his pure speed.  Kind of the polar opposite of Greg Olsen in that regard.

This draft is deep with receivers.

I believe 4 to 5 grade out as first rounders. The top 3 are obvious but the other two or three, in my opinion are almost as good. They could become game changers and 5 of the 6 listed below are probably better than what we have that isn't name Steve Smith.

Watkins

Evans

Lee

Next tier

Robinson Penn State

Jordan Mathews Vanderbilt

Fresno State receiver. - I think he is a lil overrated

Sounds like a much needed possesion receiver in the Moose vein. Just an idea.

Moose ran a 4.56.

I think Ebron can be a very good NFL TE, but not one team will discuss moving him to WR.

I appreciate the insight, man. Obviously I don't pay enough attention to college football. For me it seems unfair for the big name teams to always get to recruit most of the best players and then take pride in dominating.

I was soooo happy when Oklahoma beat Alabama, though. I can't stand Bama arrogance.

Of course, I'm a UNC fan so I may just be bitter. At least we won our bowl game though.

I'm sick of the projects all over the place. I want guys who can start day one. We was very lucky draft Smith in the 6th round years ago. No one knew Smith would turn out this good. But that was the luck of a draw pick there and I'm glad it turn out well for us over the years. But since then we have had crap WRs for the most part since Smith. We need a new top WR for Cam to throw to. Only play we will get guys like that is 1st or 2nd round. Screw the late rounds project crap. Sick of hearing it and I want to see our team get a Star WR this coming draft. Smith has very little left in the tank and he might play one to 2 more years at most. Lafell,Ginn, and the rest of those guys will never get it done. Bottom line 1st or 2nd pick of the draft. We need a very talented WR. Plan and simple.
