1st Round TE?

Rules&Regulations

Recommended Posts

Does Shula even know what to do with two pass catching TE's?

I'm at the point where I'd want BPA of our needs when our picks come up. Needs being OL, WR, and CB. Tight end is a nice thought, but I'd rather have a faster receiver who can run Shula's loooooong developing plays quickly - so Cam doesnt have to be running for his life. And OL will help the running for his life too.

Ebron is a TE. He is not playing WR except if he splits out wide in 4 wide sets.

Look, I'm a UNC fan, but UNC is notorious for exaggerating 40 times. The fastest claimed 40 I've seen for Ebron is 4.57. You can usually safely add close to two tenths to whatever 40 time UNC claims, so that makes Ebron a mid-4.7s guy. He's not a burner, but he's a damn good receiving TE who is more dangerous with his strength and tackle breaking ability after the catch than his pure speed. Kind of the polar opposite of Greg Olsen in that regard.

As another UNC fan who has luckily had my fair share of exposure to many of their players I respectfully disagree with your stance. Maybe under the Butch regime some of our not so savory coaches ::cough John Blake cough:: would fudge up the numbers but I can tell you right now Eric's low 40 time of 4.57 is absolutely legit and taking it a step further I'm willing to bet he actually runs one of his timed 40's at the combine faster....which he has absolutely done in practice on several occasions. Not picking on you but as some one who has been to practices, been around the guys and program quite a bit I can tell you you are wrong in that regard.

Eric is an excellent TE though. He absolutely has the ability to go step out as a 4 wide receiver and like you said he's pretty much polar opposite of Olsen and some one I think the Panthers could absoutely utilize kinda like Brady did with Gronk and Hernandez minus the injuries and murder of course.

if we don't draft Cam weapons in either the first or second round im going to be fuging livid. The defense is elite. Time to get Cam some help.

Maaaan me too! I say first AND second round. We need a weapon and protection. So wide receiver and a OT. I prefer receiver in round 1 but if the top 4 receivers get plucked we may have to go OT in the first round. Or maybe Eric Ebron falls to us as a weapon if four teams draft a receiver.

UNC left offensive tackle Hurst  had been projected as a second-day pick at the upcoming draft. The injury has been described as a non-displaced fracture in the left fibula, but its not clear how long it will affect his preparation for the combine in February.

If this causes Hurst to slide down the board far enough,i wouldn't be opposed to the Panthers drafting him. He could very well be the answer at offensive left tackle when Gross retires. This could also allow the Panthers to draft the best available wide receiver with the number one pick.

Give me Devin Funchess from Michigan if he enters.

He is a true sophomore.

Seferian-Jenkins is my favorite tight end in the draft.  I would love if we got him.  And if Colt Lyerla is still available in the 5th-7th round... why not?  He is the most talented tight end in this draft and in those rounds, it is always a crapshoot.

I think we should aquire a tight end in FA and trade up for Ebron. We could snag an OT in later rounds as a project. Our Oline should be healthy at that point and we can slide who need to weak points.

Obviously, I agee with the conversion comment below. Plus, Ebron would make an exceptional blocking wr. Allowing us to free up LaFell.

We could also use dual TE sets to disguise the pass.

Why would we sign a TE and then TRADE UP to get enbron when we already have Olsen? You would then have 3 TEs...

I used to be against this philosophy and was a needs based guy. After keek though, I'm all aboard on bpa. Draft guys that can immediately contribute. I'd love Ebron but I doubt he'll be there when we pick (hopefully 32). A big receiver would be great, but if one isn't there then find a corner that can possibly start and go after a receiver in FA (decker, maclin, cooper, nicks) for cheap, I'd like us to do that. Don't reach, no projects in the first. Starters only ( or at least heavy contributors).

I think we will double dip at receiver, be it WR or TE or even 2WR.

That is the course we should absolutely do, unless we bring in a mid to top tier FA WR, then I see us grabbing another WR in the 3-5th instead of 1st and 2nd round.

The other top 3 pick for us is going to be OL or CB depending on how the cookie crumbles.

I think we will bring in a bunch of offensive help this offseason and then let practice sort them all out.

DG isn't afraid to cut the fat so we should stuff ourselves full and burn what we don't use.
