The Year Was 2011

I was just reading an article today from 2011.  Lots of analysts including Chris Collinsworth said they would take Gabbert over Newton.  Collinsworth mentioned seeing Cam at the combine throwing out routes saying, "I watched him throw a couple of passes into the bleachers."  whoa Cam

It was clear anything those in the media said about Cam, folks were willing to easily believe, They then sat and over analyzing every throw Cam made simply to prove these sports folks were right or to satisfy their own dislike for Cam. Maybe that is why you have so many Panthers fans who sit and watch every game trying to point out any mistake they see Cam make and  use to continue to false belief that Cam isn't qualified to be a good, elite, or whatever QB....

I personally saw the endless criticism against Cam way to obvious. Especially when it was coming from those in the Sports media whose football careers never took off, Mayock, or they themselves were mediocre at best during their own football careers, Collinsworth. I was even more suspicious when so many QBs were singing the praises of Blaine, while scorning Cam without blinking, and finding ways to put down Jake, Dalton, and Mallette.

Those sportmedia folks wanted their Luck and Cam rivalry and didn't get it so to make up for it they settled for Blaine and did everything in their power to weaken the image of the other qbs around him, especially Cam.

On a side note when all is said and done 2011 could end up being the best first round of all time. Just unreal talent

Cam Newton

Von Miller

Marcel Dareus

Aj Green

Patrick Peterson

Julio Jones

JJ Watt

Aldon Smith

Nick Fairly

Robert Quinn

Thats like the class of the NFL right now and theyre all only in their 3rd year

The same experts, remember, who the year before agreed that Clausen was the most "NFL ready" QB in his draft.  The same Clausen who looked like a junior high QB every single time he ever set foot on an NFL field yet these "experts" somehow get to keep pontificating about things they obviously know little about.  I wonder why we pay any attention to them at all.

let's be real...clausen was never supposed to see the field his rookie year.

he never stood a chance.

In retrospect you are absolutely right but that isn't what we were lead to believe prior to the start of that season.  He got so shell shocked he is now out of the league, probably forever, which is too bad since he might have eventually turned into a decent backup QB.

Don't forget Wilkerson and to a lesser degree Taylor, Kerrigen, and Liuget. As matter of factor outside of Gabbert and Ingram all the players are very solid. Has a chance to be legendary

It baffles me that enough people thought Gabbert and Locker were worthy of top ten picks that they were on the cover of SI.

Honestly, I wanted Patrick Peterson.  It was not that I did not like Cam, just that I thought Peterson was the best player in the draft.  But it was pretty obvious that Cam had a boatload of potential compared to the other two.

In only four years of big time football (major college or NFL), a Heisman/National Title, named to two Pro Bowls, improvement every year, countless broken records, greater upside than anyone that's ever played the game. Even the years before this many lessons were learned winning a JC National Title and National Title at Florida. At 24 years old, I wouldn't trade for anyone in the history of football and no one is remotely close. How great it feels to be from the Carolinas and a Panthers fan!!!!!

I remember watching Gabbert at Missouri and then seeing that he was a projected top 5 or top 10 pick and I was just like "How average do you have to be to be a top 10 guy?" He was so unimpressive in college. Locker showed potential and is an incredible athlete who has slightly underwhelmed but still has a chance in the league.

That's because he was from Missouri. All Missouri quarterbacks suck in the NFL :p
