All possible opponents next week run a 3-4

Just heard Olsen bring up a point that I had not heard yet, sorry if it has already been mentioned.

He said all the possible opponents next week run some form of a 3-4 defense which has allowed them to plan generally around that on offense all week.

Pretty lucky break, no?

There is also a method to the success of Philly.  Play up tempo, wear the opponent D Down and then run McCoy a ton in th 4th.  this late in the season, it is working like a charm.

Teams cannot stop it even though they know it is coming.

2 things from this

1.  We cannot leave our D out their all day, bad enough against normal teams, but this is the playoffs and worse a Philly team that runs plays than other teams do because of the up tempo offense.

2.  Our offense needs to put up points and be well in the lead going into the 4th, taking away the normal mode of operation for the Eagles.

Both scenarios demand that our offense have their crap together.  No excuses.  We did not perform well after our early season bye, we had better do better this time, especially having an idea of the type of defense we will face.

3-4 defenses we faced

Buffalo Bills: Well, the playcalling was Chud-esque in the first half of that game and I don't think we'd see something similar to it in the game next week. It should be noted that they run a hybrid.

Arizona Cardinals: We got murdered, though we can't forget that Smitty and LaFell killed us with the 4th down and TD drops which would have swung the game enormously in our favor and changed gameplans on both sides.

49ers: Bad. Except on 3rd downs for whatever reason.

Saints x2: Really, really bad.... until the last drive of the second game.

Jets: Did really well, though the double screen was horrifically defended and we didn't convert on a 4th down late in the game iirc.

In other words, poo don't bode well for us next week. We hit home runs though. It's all on the line, especially Byron Bell. I blame him for everything, including any missed kicks.

Not really a lucky break. Every team in the NFC playoffs, that doesn't have a bye, runs a 3-4. Seattle is in the same boat.

Thanks for the summary.  I'll add that we went 3-3 in these games with our only two home games as wins (NO and NYJ).

We've got this.

    • It didn’t feel like we’re the Bills bc we’re not a consistent conference contender yet we’re a rebuilding team. But with the game on the line we played just like the Bills went straight down the field and scored a tuddy then converted a 2pt conversion I have to give credit where credit is due. And the chiefs played us like we were the Bills in an AFC championship game, drive down the field and kicked a walk off FG to win at the end very similar to me. Are saying our defense stunk yesterday? Vs an elite offense team with elite coaching an elite QB man idk what you want them to do. KC does these things to the best defenses in the league consistently to win AFC chips and Super Bowls let’s not devalue who they are. I saw us play KC to the wire and barely lose defense did its thing as much as it could. Bingo!!! We’re also forgetting how injured we’ve been defensively this year, yes we need to build up the D but adding a few pieces and D Browns successful rehab should make us a very strong unit again. Couple that with the offense we saw yesterday and we’re winning our division.
    • Canales deserves a lot of credit. I'm very pleased. He's definitely making strides with Bryce. I also think some of his lack of commitment to Bryce as the starter is to motivate Bryce. I think he liked what he saw when Bryce was benched.  Even the Defense looks tremendously better with just a couple more pieces getting healthy. Wonnum has made our pass rush viable again.  I would love to see this team with one more good player across the defensive front, DT or an edge rusher.
    • I didn’t see any limitations yesterday
