NFL to consider re-seeding playoffs

There are always good and bad with changing a system.

Many wild card teams have went on to the Superbowl and have even won, so not sure the "system" is exactly skewed against away teams here.  In fact our last outing at home against AZ did not turn out so well.

Doubt it gets changed

So what is the problem here?

You want to reward the effort of teams with the best record and/or those that win their divisions with a post season appearance right, and you want to reward a record with home field when appropriate?

Okay then..............

My solution........first start with adding two more teams in each conference and one more week to the playoffs.

Seed the top 4 positions in each conference with the best records regardless of division positioning............each of the top 4 gets a bye week with at least one home game ..........the top two seeds get two weeks off. (hold on here and keep reading)

Fill out 4 wild card positions with the remaining best records and/or any divisional winner not included in the top 4.

Note: All ties in records go to the divisional winner either in the top 4 seeds or the 4 wild card positions........

Week One: Wild card weekend........the wild card teams play each other (best record gets home field and tie in record goes to the divisional winner for the home field........

Week Two: Divisional Semi Finals.......the wild card winners play the 3/4 seed teams..........the 3/4 seed teams have home field.

Week Three: Divisional Finals......the 2 winners of divisional semi finals two play the top 1/2 seed teams.............top 2 seeds have home field advantage.

Week Four: Conference championship game............winners of divisional finals play each other the top seed remaining gets home field.

The goal is to reward record first but keep the divisional priority for any team that wouldn't make the post season from record being guaranteed by winning the division. Home field goes to those who have earned it through record with the only exception being that the a tie record goes to the divisional winner.

This way you don't leave anyone out with a good record like Arizona this year........................and you still give the divisional winner a post season spot.

You also don't have any good record teams without home field advantage during the first two weeks.

The 7 and 8 seed teams could end up playing another week in the season to get to the SB...........but the 1 and 2 seed teams can get two weeks bye.

Incentive to make the post season with the best record and division...............

When it comes to this issue, they should definitely keep it the way it is.  The best teams will win their division.  Rarely do you have a team that is 8-8 that wins their division.  Rarely is their a division where all four teams within it are sorry.  Yet if you have a 11 win wildcard team going up against an 8-8 division winner, it shouldn't matter where you play, the 11 win team should win that game right?  If they don't win it, then that's on them.  That just makes things more interesting.

Stopped right there.  That would put half of all the teams in the playoffs and that's too many.

You have WC teams with better records than Div Winner teams almost every season.
