Hardy contract and Johnson

I was curious to know what dead money CJ would carry if being cut so thanks.

Also, like mentioned above CJ usually has the tougher match up. I've admitted to being on the sign Hardy bandwagon now after his recent performances. However, while CJ was out Hardy seemed to disappear. Hardy benefits greatly from the rest of the DL and CJ.

Hardy hasn't reached his ceiling yet and that's what is so intriguing about him. Gman has some tough decisions to make this offseason. One thing we can't afford, is to have Hardy walk away and get nothing in return.

This is why I am starting to believe "next man up" might be the right move. Love hardy but you can't pay everyone.

Who would you take in their prime? Peppers or Hardy?... I am going to say peppers just because of his ability to score touchdowns. Just curious who would you choose and why?

Hardy, he wants to be great.. Peppers was really good, his hattricks of sack-FF-recovery were awesome as well as a few blocked passes caught & returned. I'll give you that...

But, I used to work with a guy that said hed rather have a somebody that could only do half the work that came in on-time everyday over some body that busted ass but came in late. You can count on the halfass, you cant count on the bustass.. Same thing here, GHardy plays all out all the time, could you tell what games & when Peppers decided he wanted to play?

It will all be done with Cam and Luke in mind. But knowing how DG values the DL I would expect Hardy to be retained. Somewhere along the line this offseason Godfrey will be cut. I also expect multiple players to make their giant contract more cap friendly. Stewart, Dwill, and TD will need to step up. I could see them doing something similar to what Gross did. It'd be nice if Johnson would take a cut as well in his base and instead take some bonus money.

I like DWill he has some strengths, but he's not worth nearly as much as were paying him.....neither is Stewart.  It's almost time to draft another running back or pick one up FA.  It's about time for a backfield purge other then Tolbert.  That in itself would free up a ton of cap room.   I wonder how much dead money on in their contracts.

Personally, I don't see how you pay him and upgrade the O line, WR corps, retain some of the short term deals we had out there, and smartly manage the cap.

We got him in the 6th and he has turned into one of the better defenders in the league, while costing us very little.  The panthers, even if he walks, get the better end of this deal.

With our cap space and FA's we are in a position where we CAN'T afford to miss on a single draft pick. Maybe that had alot to do with JR's decision as well, seeing as DG is known to live in the film room.

Keep them both.

Also, I think it is arguable whom is better. CJ takes on better offensive tackles most the time, and he is slightly better against the run. CJ used to get like 8-12 tackles for loss as well as a dozen sacks.

They are both incredible and we need to keep them both somehow.

No, just no...

Hardy and it isn't close. Slightly less freakish, but double the effort most plays. Give me the dude who leaves it all on the field every Sunday...

not sure if posted, so i want start another thread but here is a recent article:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/02/after-talking-discount-greg-hardy-now-wants-a-big-number/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs

Yeah, that hometown discount thing Greg Hardy was talking about the other week? Never mind.

The Panthers defensive end told Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer he was looking for “a big number” when he becomes a free agent in a few weeks.

It’s all about the numbers with me. I don’t really have an end game to where I want to hustle or play around or play the market,” Hardy said. “I want a big number that I worked for, nothing imaginary. And if you don’t believe me, tell me what you want me to do and I’ll go do it for you. And then give me my number and we’ll be good.”

Hardy has played himself into a prime place in the market, with 7.0 sacks the last two games to give him 15.0 for the season. The former sixth-round pick said he wouldn’t be opposed to being franchise-tagged, however, adopting a more conciliatory stance than many in his position.

I think we should franchise Hardy if we cannot reach a deal.Losing him is not an option in my opinion.

Really? Estimated Cap room 13M, 2013 franchise tag for a DE almost 12M. Both numbers are expected to increase but even if Gman can move some things around it doesn't add up to be possible, not with all the one year contracts we have this year. Not to mention trying to sign him and Cam in the same year?! Let's be realistic. It's a hard pill to swallow. The only way it works is to make a long term deal that's heavy on the backend, that way it's staggered from CJs heavy years. Only take a hit of 5-7M over the first couple of years. That would leave 6-8M to simply field a team next year, but probably not address our any of our weaknesses. We need some GMan magic!

Gettleman and Richardson call UA and Gatorade. Tell them we will pay them $25MM per year in exclusive stadium sales and advertising but $15MM of it has to go to Cam each year. We then sign Cam to a 7 year, $42MM, wholly guaranteed contract at $6MM per, while completely skirting the salary cap rules in a shady fashion in order to keep this dynasty together. Let's get creative people!

Panthers don't have to resign Cam this coming season.  Yeah it would be nice to lock him up but we still have another season to do it.  Panthers have a 5th year option for Cam.  So they can use that.
