Hardy contract and Johnson

CJ deserves every goddamn penny he has earned. Also pre leg whip CJ had more sacks. No way is he 100%. The obvious choice here is to just sign Hardy this offseason and cut CJ next offseason. Getts got dis.

Different styles of players.  Hardy is similar to Peppers while CJ is similar to Rucker.  CJ and Rucker are high-motor guys that are incredibly consistent.  Hardy and Pep are athletic freaks who occasionally get contained, but when they get going you can't stop them.

Keep them both.

Also, I think it is arguable whom is better. CJ takes on better offensive tackles most the time, and he is slightly better against the run. CJ used to get like 8-12 tackles for loss as well as a dozen sacks.

They are both incredible and we need to keep them both somehow.

Idk Hardy lines up all over the field

this is probably an uninformed opinion but I'd like to see us backload the bejeezus out of hardys contract to coincide with whatever restructuring we do of CJ's contract

Agree and that's something good GM's do so they're not stuck battling big cap hits all at the same time. You have to stagger them.

Where are people coming up with CJ playing against better linemen? Hardy predominantly goes up against the LT which is generally the better pass blocker, having to protect the QB's blindside. And when Hardy isn't going up against the LT, he's being moved inside to go against OGs which is an even tougher matchup from a pass-rushing perspective. I love both Hardy and CJ, but if anyone is playing tougher competition it's Hardy.

Of course there is the occasional anomaly like Strief vs. Brown/Armstead for the Saints, but for the most part the LT is supposed to be the better pass protector.

I feel like a broken record on here when it comes to contracts and how they work.

Players never do the team a solid, step up, or take one for the team.

It's a business.  Anytime a player restructures he's getting more GUARANTEED money.  Player A is set to make 5 millions this season.  The team restructures him and converted the money to a bonus, maybe add a few years because you can spread the bonus out over the life of the contract.  It cost the team more, the player gets more but the team gets to spread it out thus freeing up more cap room.

I agree with what others have said.  Resign Hardy, backload the contract a bit and after next year restructure or cut Johnson.

Cut Johnson? Dude was on pace to hae a better season then hardy till some douce bag kicked him in the knee. Let's keep him, hardy, cam, and luuuuuke. I'm sure newton won't mind getting 12mil a year instead of 15 for example to help the team. Guys should follow the example set by TD

Who would you take in their prime? Peppers or Hardy?... I am going to say peppers just because of his ability to score touchdowns. Just curious who would you choose and why?

Pepper has more athletic ability but I'll take Hardy.  He gives more consistent pressure and he's got that fire.  A roaring fire.  I don't know if Pep ever even lit a match.  Which says a ton about his ability.

I'll take Hardy all day.  Consistent pressure constantly is better than that 1 or 2 WTF awesome play Pep would have each year.

If we sign Hardy to a 6 year 60 million contract, his cap hit would likely be 7 million or less in 2014.  His signing bonus will be prorated and if we just handed him 30 million guaranteed, the prorated cap hit would be 5 million a year and his salary would be a million or less for a total of 6 million. In 2015 it could increase to a salary of 4 million giving us a cap hit of 9 million. In 2016 it could be a salary of 7 million giving us a cap hit of 12 million.  Over the next 3 years it would average 6 million a year for a cap hit of roughly 11 million a year.

Charles Godfrey, Steve Smith (sorry but he isn't producing enough for the 7 mil I believe he's set to make next year, might retire too), Gross (might retire) and our running backs. All that rolled up should be enough even if Cam's demands are absurd.

You conveniently forgot that you gave to replace all of those guys that you listed....which takes sig cap space.

You would have no #1 WR and no starting LT.

Hardy every day and twice on Subsay.

Peppers was an athletic freak. But he had nowhere near the heart and work ethic of Hardy.
