I wonder how Cutler's contract will affect Cam's

top dawg

Recommended Posts

Jay Cutler through his first three seasons: 9,447 yards, 57 total touchdowns, 37 interceptions. No playoff berths.

Cam Newton through his first three seasons: 13,331 total yards, 92 total touchdowns, 42 interceptions. 1 playoff berth.

Dayuum! Cam is a freaking monster. Just a different level of performance.

It seems like you dont even have to be a good QB these days to get a mega contract, just be a NFL QB that people have heard of like Romo, Cutler and Flacco and you are guaranteed a mega deal. I know I will get bashed big time for saying this but while Cam is very solid hes not elite. Im sorry but in today's NFL its not hard to find a random QB that can pass for just 3300 passing yds and a 61% completion rate these days and ride a no 1 defense to the playoffs. Cam is solid no doubt, but lets be real, with this elite D, you dont need a world beater QB to get it done. In my mind, Cam isnt a 100 million dollar QB.

So, an elite QB is one who threw for a lot of yards? I thought Cam did that in his rookie year......without an off season. Fail!

Not his first three seasons, which they were talking about.

Cutler only played 6 games his first season.  compare apples to apples cutler 2nd and 3rd season where the same if not a little better as far as passing goes.  But Cam has the better td to int ratio.   I would take Cam over Cutler any day of the week.  But you also have to realize we are talking two different types of qbs.

You can't assess Cutler's success with NFC championship games or playoffs, the guy had the Chicago Bears defense of the mid 2000's to back him up. He didn't "lead" the Bears to anything. Brian Urlacher did.

30 years old, and people still see "upside". Nope, he's a scrub, and will always be. He wasn't even great this year, and he had a monster supporting cast in Forte, Marshall, and Jeffery. If Cam was in Chicago, that team would be the unanimous Super Bowl favorite right now. For far too long, Cutler has been spoon-fed by organizations that perceive him to be the franchise quarterback. 30, and still without any accomplishments.

This deal was moronic, as the Bears will be losing key players in their defense, which unarguably was one of the worst in the league. Say hello to 7 more years of mediocre seasons, Chicago.

Would be nice to have Chicago in our division for the next 7 years.

As a thought experiment I would love to see a GM fork over  $45 million a  year to his QB on the condition that this amount will pay for the QB AND the entire offensive line (say 8 guys).  The QB gets to decide how to allocate the money.

It would be interesting to see if the QB would spend lavishly on protection or keep most of it himself.   Imagine some hotshot making $35 million a year protected by five UDFAs.  Hilarious.

Cam is duel threat.  Cutler is a pure passer.  While the stats look nice I bet cutler has more passing yards and passing td's.

Well, only 2 people had more passing yards than Cam their first three years and neither of them is called Cutler. So, you do the math.

Cutler always had better weapon than Cam in Marshall and Jeffrey. In fact, if we continue this comparison thing and start digging up the stats we might end up concluding that Cutler is one of the worst QBs in the league in almost any category. And also, about that dual threat thing, who says Cutler can't be that too. He has two legs, two arms, and apposable thumbs just like Cam. This is sports, everyone should know how to run. No reserved position(QB) for the athletically challenged. Don't try making it sound like it's a slight on Cam for knowing how to run.

Poor baby Cutler, he doesn't know how to run, let's have a much much much lower expectations on him and pay him much much much more money than the more athletic player who accomplished much much much more than him. smh.

Wrong again.

They're actually two similarly big armed, down field QB's. However, Cam has showed more patience and flexibility at this stage of his career, that Cutler rarely does--even now-- (even eliminating Cam's running threat, option).

Different types of QB, uh? Cutler is just the athletically challenged QB trying his best, why shouldn't we set the standard lower for him, right? Fair enough! I can go to bed accepting that. But you can't have it both way in comparing them on the same metrics. Personally, I don't think Cutler is remotely in the same class as Cam. Weekly I doubt any DC lose sleep over Cutler. Fact!

Even eliminating the running threat, Cam compares very favorably to Cutler.
