I wonder how Cutler's contract will affect Cam's

top dawg

If the market supports it from TV and fan revenue I guess these contracts keep going up and up............but I can't help thinking that the bottom will fall out of it someday.

The other aspect that concerns me is the disparity between what a QB makes and what a O lineman makes. I know its not suppose to be a socialist ideal but we are talking about a  team..........its a team sport.

I can't help thinking in that excess will compromise everything...........

It seems like you dont even have to be a good QB these days to get a mega contract, just be a NFL QB that people have heard of like Romo, Cutler and Flacco and you are guaranteed a mega deal. I know I will get bashed big time for saying this but while Cam is very solid hes not elite. Im sorry but in today's NFL its not hard to find a random QB that can pass for just 3300 passing yds and a 61% completion rate these days and ride a no 1 defense to the playoffs. Cam is solid no doubt, but lets be real, with this elite D, you dont need a world beater QB to get it done. In my mind, Cam isnt a 100 million dollar QB.

What about the 600 rushing yds and 30 total tds?

Bad move by the bears... maybe.. but 7 years? Maybe they really really believe in him.. but some of these contracts are just plain out dumb.

I hope we sign Cam to like 6 years.. He is the Panthers QB for a long time IMO. He has more potential than anyone coming up or anyone out to grab.

You can't assess Cutler's success with NFC championship games or playoffs, the guy had the Chicago Bears defense of the mid 2000's to back him up. He didn't "lead" the Bears to anything. Brian Urlacher did.

30 years old, and people still see "upside". Nope, he's a scrub, and will always be. He wasn't even great this year, and he had a monster supporting cast in Forte, Marshall, and Jeffery. If Cam was in Chicago, that team would be the unanimous Super Bowl favorite right now. For far too long, Cutler has been spoon-fed by organizations that perceive him to be the franchise quarterback. 30, and still without any accomplishments.

This deal was moronic, as the Bears will be losing key players in their defense, which unarguably was one of the worst in the league. Say hello to 7 more years of mediocre seasons, Chicago.

I have to laugh at how concerned u folks are about Cam's future salary as ur QB. Even going as far as to hope he takes less money so the team can do something they have yet to seriously do since he became ur QB, build a strong team around him.

In all honest, Cam is working harder the other young QBs, except maybe Gino. Colin, Russell, Luck, and even RG has much better weapons around the. This team seem to be milking Cam's talent for all it's worth. And u folks r concerned at his future salary.

It's funny how everyone sees Cam's real contribution to this team but u folks only seem interested in wins, rings, and how accurate he throws a ball.

How does anything u say here relate to my post u quoted?

My point was if his value goes sky high, we sign him for $20m+ a year and our franchise goes down the tubes because we can't afford other key players.

Obviously Cutler has accomplished more than Cam because he's been in the league longer. But that still comes up in negotiations. How many playoff seasons, how many playoff wins, and how many Super Bowls, and best statistical seasons. These are things that matter when placing a value on someone.

Same applies to Luck and Dalton right?

He's made the playoffs several times, made it to an NFC Championship game. He's a polished passer compared to Cam.

"Jay Cutler is a polished passer (compared to Cam)" Says who?

Jay Cutler is a gun slinger supreme, who hasn't seemed to learn yet--at the of 30 years old--till proven other wise. Cutler's also notoriously streaky.

I'm not to sure about that (especially compared to Cam when you factor in their relative years in the league)?

Of course it remains to seen with Cam as well, nonetheless Newton has appeared to learn certain lessons, that Cutler still hasn't, after years in the NFL as a passer/QB.

as a fan of a franchise that only has 4 winning seasons....................I have earned that right.

Winning takes priority over everything.

However I think Cam is an accommodating type who doesn't like to lose (at all) so he will help out come contract time to ensure we have a team around him

If we win the Superbowl, its a good problem to have

18 mil for a guy who has two of the best WRs in the league, a very good TE, and a good running game but unable to make the playoffs year in and year out all because he has a strong arm. After 8 years in the league people are still waiting  for him to explode and do something useful with that strong arm. Cam on the other hand has been breaking record from the moment he steps into the league and in his 3rd year got his team to a 12-4 record with a bye week in the playoffs. If I were Cam there is no way I'd take the same money as Cutler. You'd have to give me at least a penny more than him. The disparity in expectations is so freaking unfair. So many excuses for those guys. Where is Cam's excuses? wtf!

It seems like the media and the sports industry conceded a long time ago that certain players are innately better thus the higher expectations.
