Revis Could Get Cut By Tampa

But...shutdown corner...need have in zone scheme.  THIS is why we won't go CB in the first, Man and shutdown corners go in the first round, Zone guys go later in the draft.  Hell, we got a #2 CB without even having to draft the guy, and a reserve (possible future starting) safety without using a draft pick too.

Its not a scheme thing hes just bad.

Even pre injury he rode a 4 game streak against Moss TO and Andre Johnson for about 5 years for his claim to fame.

I live in NY, most games as a Jet he didn't even line up against number 1s,

Seriously Ted Ginn, Ted F|_|CKING Ginn made him look like a FOOL.  Ginn is a decent role player for us, but he's nowhere near the caliber player Revis has been known to "shutdown".

Revis is done.

Ted did this to him when was in his prime... remember the Dolphin game? Acid Burned!

Revis finished the year as PFF's best CB of 2013. You don't know what you're talking about. He's just a great CB no matter what scheme you put him in.

Revis isn't going anywhere btw. Lovie played more man to man during his final years in Chicago. Which is why Tillman flourished. Revis will flourish under Lovie's scheme.

Do we run zone because we want to, or is it because we have to?

Because our base defense is inherited from the Jim Johnson zone defense. Zone is not inherently inferior to man. It's a philosophical difference. Regardless of the base preference both will be utilized regardless.

to me, it is more about matchups, which usually the secondary doesnt match up well one-on-one for most teams we played, so you will see we ran a lot more zone.  there were a couple games though, that i guess we felt we matched up better and played more man, Dolphins and Jets come to mind.  of course you dont play all zone or all man an entire game, the idea is to mix them up but this year, i think we played more zone due to the deficiencies in the secondary.

We run both now, but we play the zone to mask the deficiencies in the secondary. The play man as a change up.

When Gamble was here we ran alot more man.

If we had a true cover corner we would probably see alot more man.

It's by choice. Both Rivera and McDermott cut their teeth under Jim Johnson. The system we run is his system.

I see.  My question was a bit of masked sarcasm with genuine curiosity sprinkled in.

I agree with all of you to some degree.  I believe we run a Jim Johnson scheme which is more zone than man but I also believe that in game situations where it would be more beneficial to man up at the line of scrimmage we have had to use zone to keep our corners from being abused.  Even further to that point, if for some reason our pass rush is not getting it done we really have to play it safe on the back end to help the secondary out.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
