By all accounts, Steve Wilks is the DC in waiting, unless McDermott takes Wilks with him (which would suck) :(

You'd be correct, but you never know what might happen.

 

Solid bet that McDermott would pull someone from our staff if he went.  maybe not Wilks, but I doubt we'd get away unscathed.

 

It also helps that Wilks is a Charlotte native and an App State grad.

With the emergence of mobile QBs, I'm starting to think man corner specialists are becoming extinct.

See Revis and Asomoghua over the last few years become virtually ineffective.

The game is evolving and defenses can no longer afford to turn their backs on QBs.

revis is still one of the best CB in the game and will be for a good amount of years. no doubt about that.

Not quite true.

We run zone because both our head coach and our defensive coordinator cut their teeth under the tutelage of Jim Johnson - one of the best DCs in recent history, mind you - who ran a zone blitz attack out of a 4-3 (same defense the Steelers have run forever under Dick LeBeau, just out of a different alignment.

Possible we could change schemes if McDermott gets a job elsewhere, but I wouldn't bet on it. Our current personnel fit this attack pretty well, and an overhaul of a top ranked unit doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Rivera, McDermott and company are easily talented enough to be able to incorporate Revis's strength into our defense and come out better for it. A player who can take out a offence's best wideout would only be a plus.

We don't have to switch to a entire different scheme or personnel to make it work, you can play zone on one side and man on the other. Regardless In Tampa they played him in a lot of zone and he did well despite not being 100 percent healthy.

The real obstacle is price, and we simply can't afford what he would demand ,given our other holes

Revis is a great man cover CB. If we could sign him to an affordable contract; I'd man him up the best WR and the rest of our defense would run its regular scheme. I'm sure that this won't happen. We'd be lucky if we can keep Hardy and not to forget about the 1 year deals that we may want to extend...

Tampa won't cut him...period. Having said that, Revis with our front 7 would be an all time great defense. It would be worth every penny.

Seriously Ted Ginn, Ted F|_|CKING Ginn made him look like a FOOL.  Ginn is a decent role player for us, but he's nowhere near the caliber player Revis has been known to "shutdown".

Revis finished the year as PFF's best CB of 2013. You don't know what you're talking about. He's just a great CB no matter what scheme you put him in.

Revis isn't going anywhere btw. Lovie played more man to man during his final years in Chicago. Which is why Tillman flourished. Revis will flourish under Lovie's scheme.

No, Thomas Dimitrioff did an amazing job with the Revis contract where he got 0 guaranteed money so that means they can cut him with almost no harm to their cap. Its crazy really that people actually even criticized TD on that contract whatsoever as I have been hearing the past few days now that he has been fired.
