Take a damp towel and lay it on your head or the back of your neck when you're hot and see how refreshing it feels.  I always assumed that's what Cam was doing when he was wearing one.

 

I used to work in a plant and the heat index it would routinely be 110+ degrees during the summer time in the area I worked.  I used to wear a wet towel around my head and neck too and the difference was crazy.
