Crap in a hat. Top five defense coming soon to Tampa.

2005 (Rivera): 1st overall
2006 (Rivera): 3rd overall
2007: 16th overall
2008: 16th overall
2009: 22nd overall

I must be missing something. Were we watching the same Mike Glennon?? Because he seemed pretty awful to me

he was a rookie on a horrible team.

He still made good decisions with the ball.

We blitzed the hell out of him, and he stood tall and went through his progressions. Now, compare to Eli Manning when we blitzed the hell out of him.

I'm not gonna call him a pro bowler. But I do think he is a quality NFL starting quarterback.

**keep in mind I'm only basing this off three games I saw him play. I rarely watch college football, so I'm not an NC State homer (never heard of Russell Wilson until draft talk)

Smith is likely going to do what Fox did here, and that's to get the Bucs to the point where they're a consistent threat.  He's not a crazy genius like Payton, who is still probably the best coach in the division.  And he doesn't have a train wreck of a franchise in the division like the Lions to give him two free wins a year.  Or rather, he's taking over the train wreck.  He got run out of Chicago because he could never get them over the hump, so to speak.  And he will face the same problems in Tampa Bay, particularly so given how much more competitive the South is.

Hope he brought his disinfectant, BTW...

The Bucs new head coach Lovie Smith came up in the NFL as a well-respected defensive assistant. He should have the Buccaneers' defense among the best in the league next year.

With another year of positive development from quarterback Mike Glennon, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Bucs in the playoff hunt in 2014. Smith went to the playoffs three times in nine seasons with Bears.

There are lots of NC State fans around these parts who think Glennon is a good QB. IMHO, he has the potential to be an average QB, but really needs a strong cast around him to be a SB caliber QB (think Dilfer).

This. He actually regressed as the season went on.
