Kuechly not a Probowler according to PFF

PFF isn't gospel. It's still the best statistical reference site until another better one comes along. NFL personnel use it for a reason.

And some people clearly don't even know how their grading system works. lol

I don't agree with them that Luke is not a pro bowler but in no way does that invalidate their website.

So the 49er defense is good cause of a couple of probowlers and not the collective unit?

They grade individuals and are an individually based metric.  Anything put together as a team is a composite of the individuals.  That's their setup.  It's a team game and they're approaching a way to quantify the individual.

I've worked with them in the past, and had a free sub for a year.  I miss it but won't pay for it.

Usually, they over-grade run players and under-grade pass players to a point, but every play is an individual grade.  That's a point I'd disagree with, except pass-oriented players get overvalued in the NFL.  It doesn't account for competition, it doesn't account for injury, I believe that most "good" plays are a +.5 and an excellent play a rare +1, so there's also a lot of compression on what they do (you can essentially change the game significantly, and it will erase two small negative plays on first quarter runs).

It has its uses (I love it for quantifying linemen and roleplayers, for instance) even if you don't like how they do things, but they're pretty legit.   I liked their rushing metrics, and their defensive QB rating.  But even their signature statistics have some subjectivity to them.  It's a different approach from baseball type stats of footballoutsiders that sometimes do a better job of rating guys in a list form, but you essentially have no clue what they're talking about.

Their statement about Kuechly isn't that he's bad, more that he's fifth best or something of that idea.  I don't think I mind that, I don't agree with it, but in a system where extreme positive and mediocre are measured individually play to play, you can find some of your 'good' being lost to the ether with this type ranking system.

As so many "annalists" forget there is a big difference in LB play and responsibilities from a 3-4 and a 4-3 defense. Most 3-4 LB's are used as pass rushers and not so much the 4-3 LB's. The front 4 of a 4-3 are for pass rushing and the LB's are for run stopping (plugging the holes). Retards as always.

As far as a Pure Middle LB, Luke is the best in the NFL. Not a Panther fan stating this just and educated fact.
