I have clearly stated Williams has a place in our offense. So does Tolbert. So does Stewart.

Williams needs to be put in space. Tolbert and Stewart need to run through trash piles. THAT isn't bashing ANYONE.

It isn't worth the energy to show you that Williams is a bad run, bad run bad run bad run, good run RB in our current offense.

I wouldn't waste energy trying to prove something that the entire fanbase plainly sees as incorrect either.

Williams moves the ball down the field. Tolbert takes over in the redzone. Historically Jonathan Stewart is tough to bring down. His injuries have changed that. In 2008, he was the closest thing to AD in the league (the rare combination of strength, speed, and agility). He isn't that guy anymore. DWill isn't either, but if you've paid attention the last 10 weeks, he's been dragging defenders with him instead of dropping on first contact. He's been hitting (nonexistent) holes with authority a la Double Trouble '08. He's not shutter stepping waiting on a hole anymore. He's accepted this line will not give him a hole.

Pay attention.

The problem is that we have too many backs and we haven't figured out a way to use them all effectively. I mean look at Barner. Everyone fantasized about what he would do this season, and he hasn't seen the field.

to be fair, he didn't do himself any favors with his preseason performance.

If he didn't possess 100 kilotons of untapped potential, he probably wouldn't have a roster spot.

False. He showed he could go forward. He also looked no worse than Williams in most games they both played in

He also showed that he can go backwards or go nowhere as much as any other RB on the team. He was stuffed at the line most plays he was in the game.

Williams still goes down like an old lady. Seems like he has 10 bad runs for every good one. Getting him in space as a reciever seems to be what he is best at.

Stewart my not hit the homeruns but he has less odds of being dropped bc someone's left pinkie brushes his shoestring. We may need that. His style ideally fits what we do on offense. Slowly move the ball downfield. Negative runs are a killer.

Last time he was on the field......he looked pretty dang good

Well, we've been doing running back by committee the whole year. (And I would say what a committee!)  Stew won't mess up any rhythm out there.

it's the usually suspect every rb thread, dwill haters and stewart apologetic............stewarts my boy but he's injured majority of the time and those no reason he should come in and get majority of the snaps over dwill and tolbert.

 

Always the same knock on williams is that he go's down easily or runs into the first defender.....false, he runs the play if there isn't a hole,cut-back lane,or even small crevice he's not going to get far....especially with this o line....and he's discipline enough to not get into a foot race to the outside  every-time there isn't a hole.

 

also the rare reason williams doesn't fumble is because he doesn't try and do too much rb's do this way too often and end up getting stripped so if that means not trying to get that extra yard or avoiding a turnover ill do that.

 

last but not least these rb's know there role, tolbert is the punisher,williams is the cut-back homerun hitter.....there is no reason for williams to run full speed into d lineman just to get a extra 2 yards

I'm the guy who realizes our best RB is a fat cheap guy we got from SD. I realize our best runner is our QB.

They played in 4 games together excluding the NO game Stewart got hurt (his lone carry a 16 yarder)

4 games they played together (Atl, SF, NE, Mia)

Williams - 37 rushes

Stewart - 33 rushes

Rushes over 3 yards?

Williams - 9 rushes over 3 yards (24% of his runs)

Stewart - 19 over 3 yards (57% of his runs)

That is the difference. Stewart consistently gets decent yet unimpressive yards. Williams will occasionally pop the longer ones.

It isn't hate of one player or love of another. Stewart simply consistently gets yards.

In a ball control O.....Stewart is valuable even if not making the highlight reel.

Look at Williams last 2 games as we head into the postseason.

22 rushes attempts - 4 rushes over 3 yards (18%)

Why do people want 28 to stay out?

That isn't bashing Williams. He is a good RB if he can get into space. Our OL accidentally create holes. Our RBs are forced to creates through trash piles and that is more Stewart and Tolberts game. We need to use our RBs effectively. That means if 28 is healthy he takes rush attempts away from Williams. Williams needs an increased workload in our pass attack. He may realistically be one of our best weapons there. He can still have good rush days too (the 2 NY games for example) but we don't need to purely rely on him as he is more dependent on the OL

If stewart is healthy and ready, he plays. It's simple.

I don't understand the hate towards players that get hurt. It's the NFL. EVERYONE GETS HURT AT SOMEPOINT.

 

I'm not speaking for others but I don't hate Stew. Tolbert has shown that he is effective in the screen game as well as being the effective short yard back that can also run over defenses for 10+ games. At this stage of the year, you play the pro bowl fullback and not the player that coulda woulda shoulda.
