Cap numbers for 2014 offseason?

Pantherman

Recommended Posts

As we sit here and waiting for the playoffs to begin this weekend. And while we are talking about trying to resign Hardy and give Cam an extension for the long term to keep both these guys. Can anyone give me the clearest figures of next year cap will look like. That includes this year 11 million under the cap money we currently have that will roll over into this offseason. Along with cuts that can be made to save us money and dead money and all. I want to be able to see what this team has to work with this offseason to be able to  resign our key guys for the long haul. I know this is asking a lot. I don't know much about putting this kind of stuff together. But if anyone has the time to do it. I thank you in advance.

40 players on contract, with Gross not really being on contract because the way his deal is set up. So really 39 players and only 11 million in cap space.... ouch.

I really doubt that CJ will do another restructure and TD's contract will be going up and Stewart is owed a 4 million option bonus as well.

You can cut Godfrey for 2 million. They can June 1st Dwill and save nearly 4 million on the season. Cut Dwan Edwards and save 1.3 million. Cut Chase Blackburn and save nearly 1 million. That's roughly 8 million extra, which would give the team close to 20 million to resign some players/extend players and go after a FA or two.

I really hope we can keep Hardy but it is going to be difficult with the cap situation. He is going to be wanting a contract comparable to CJ's (rightly so) and I dont think that Gettleman is going to give him that much with the depth we have at DE and the other holes that have to be filled.

As it stands were about $23 mil under the cap, but we do not need to enter negotiations with cam until end of 2015 season so no pressure this offseason for that.

I think hardy will be a no brainer although he and his agent have already turned down $8 mil earlier in the season rumour has it, seems as CJ and Jstew Kalil restructured this offseason I can't see them taking anymore cuts although I may be wrong.

On that list id keep ginn mitchell mikkel gano wharton. smitty and gross one one more year deals, although if be tempted to move gross over to right tackle.

We will seek Oline men in the draft you can bet your life on that, gettlemans philosophy is big guys in the line on both sides of the ball so I honestly think he may double dip again for a tackle and a guard.

Free agency is tricky with lack of cap space, I'd like to see us make a play for tiquan underwood who's free from bucs this year he would add a tall deep threat and be a cheap option, also Macklin from the eagles would be an upgrade on what we got this year.

But I heard a strong rumour the panthers don't expect to see Lee or Watkins stil be there and there hot on the kid moncrief, id be happy with him.

I'm not sure what you accomplish by cutting valuable players for 1-2million in savings. You have to replace those players. If you get an absolute bum for 500k then you have saved a small amount of money for a drop in production.

I think you keep Dwan Edwards and Colin Cole those guys there have really helped Star and KK immensely, plus to have that four man rotation has helped us all year to keep fresh on defence and allow the pass rushers freedom to attack like they have, so saving 2-3 mil is pointless when you lose that kind of production and upset the balance of the front seven

Other than Edwards I don't see anyone on his list who wouldn't be gone or is too valuable to not consider cutting.
