I still remember watching Johnny Carson one night.  He went to IMS and tried out Granatelli's/Parnelli's STP Turbine car. Johnny turned laps fast enough he would have made the Indy 500 field!

 

 

Always could tell the STP Crews with their overalls.

Had not heard he passed.

 

I remember all those Indy races he was part of. Back in those days the Indy 500 was huge and everyone watched. I remember all those years as any car-loving kid in his early teens would.

His autobiography "they call me mr. 500" is a great read........

 

He and his brother used to collect labels off old glass soft drink bottles when they were kids to redeem them for cash...................seems like old Andy was always hustling.........
