I think that we can get him cheap, but I'm also interested in seeing what McNutt can bring to the field, after that one catch he made.

Even with his goose egg this year he has more TDs than anyone on our roster in the time frame since he arrived in the NFL.

I would take him in a hearbeat. Change of scenery never hurt anyone.

I don't know what you mean about zero catches.  He had quite a few catches and had a YPC of 16.  He had a pretty good year overall, and if he's cheap, there's no reason not to.

 

BUT you are right about his contract likely being high.  I don't know if he'll be that high though, he had a down year and has some injury issues, so...

Would rather draft a WR, too.  If we somehow miraculously had room, I'd take him, that's all I'm saying.  He'd be an upgrade immediately and would help us no matter who we drafted.

 

I don't expect him to be a Panther, though.

The Patriots took a flyer on Randy Moss when he was garbage in Oakland and it worked out. Just depends on how cheap you can get him. If we can somehow get him at a bargain great, I certainly wouldn't get into a bidding war for him. I do like the idea of us FINALLY drafting a number 1 WR either way.

If we can get him for a good price in the offseason, I'll be a very happy camper.  Yes this year was down, and yes he's had injury issues, but when healthy in the not to recent past, he has been able to be a very good WR.  Donald Lafell proved that he cannot compete when asked to be a #1 guy in a game going up against another teams #1 corner, Hakeem Nicks has done this. His size makes me think of Anquan Bolden, and like others have said, he wanted out of New York, so a change of scenery may help him get back to form.  If we can get him for an affordable contract, then bring that dude in and let him compete.

Gettleman did a great job this year bringing in players for 1yr deals.  We might lose some of them, but I think Hixon and Ginn will stay on.

Lafell did not show any improvement and will be let go.  If we can bring in Hicks or another vet Wr, we will have the option on draft day to take either a wr or OL with our first pick. If we can't bring in a quality vet WR, then our first pick must go WR then OL in the second round.

Gettleman will stick with his plan and rebuild this team with young studs.

The bottom line is this offseason HAS to be spent finding another playmaker or 3 to help balance out our team. If we can snag Hakeem for relatively cheap and draft/sign/trade for another absolute 1 (1 in training of course. As far as I'm concerned until Smitty retires he will always be our number 1 reciever) I'd be fapping for days. You can't tell me he isn't better than Donald.

And that's why he is still worth bringing in. This kind of WR is exactly what Cam needs... a security blanket. A guy he can throw it to and trust he'll be the one to come down with it. Smitty has been that guy but he's not the same "jump ball" guy he was in his prime. Cam needs a guy with a wide catch radius like Nicks.

Also, you might want to look at the year Eli had before writing Nicks off for his subpar season.

 

I am not writing him off, per se, I am questioning whether it will be worth paying to bring him to Charlotte at the expense of some young talent who may be able to bring the same skill set and production that Nicks has since he has been in the NFL. I am not solely basing my thoughts on Nicks based upon this one season. Personally, I am more interested in Brandon Coleman, Jaelen Strong, Devin Street, and Donte Moncrief (among others).  Not saying that I wouldn't take Nicks if he is willing to be reasonable (i.e., if he wants a salary that is commensurate with his real-life production, and not based on his imagination). He wants to get paid (surprise, surprise). I will give him credit though, because he realizes he hasn't necessarily proved that he deserves that big pay day, and is willing to prove himself in the coming year.  The thing is though, many of the prospective 2014 draftees at WR with their size (many of which are bigger than Nicks) and skills are looking more enticing than Nicks right now.

Get Nicks for cheap, draft a WR/TE in the 1st as well, get Amini healthy, bring back Wharton, draft an OT or sign one, and somehow bring back the Kraken to keep dominating. Dynasty. 

 

We need upgrades at corner too to be a real dynastry though.
