Officially Concerned about the Offense

Zod

Recommended Posts

Zod and most others contributing to this thread are correct.  Concerns about Shula's ability are valid, we lack offensive weapons, Cam is not a pure pocket passer ... yet we are trying to make him one and based upon his comments yesterday about not being able to make a living with this much running ... it sounds like he wants to be a pocket passer, a gust of wind will bring down Dwill on most running plays, etc. etc.

While all of this is true, our success this year (regardless of what happens in the playoffs) will probably keep everything status quo.  I hope DG is cerebral and gutsy enough to realize change is necessary even after a very good season.

Please don't act holier than though. I have watched every Panther game since 1995 and have attended 100s of games.  No one here is being bitchier than you.  People have every right to say what they want without being chastised by you just like I will give you every chance to say what you want even though you are being bitchy and doing exactly what you are criticizing others of doing.

Like everything else in life if you things that doesn't make sense you should expect more knowledgeable to challenge you on it or else you can just keep you mouth shut. Like I said, a lot of fans watch the game to see big plays and wins and losses. But more knowledgeable observe and understand the weakness and strength of their team. If you observe throughout the NFL there are teams that are loaded offensively(bears & detroit) but don't know how to use their weapons thus they will be watching the panthers with probably the most anemic skill players offensively with a bye week. Any bad coach could easily ignore Cams pure passing ability and run his ass to an ACL injury like RG3 to have one good year. But this coaching staff understands the many skills Cam bring to the table and put all of it on display week after week to a 12-4 record. That's coaching!

Are you srsly this slow?  Did you read the OP or thread title?  This entire thread is about legit concern of the offense.  I'm as delighted as anyone that we're 12-4 it doesn't however make me blind.  Throwing a 6 yard swing pass 6 feet over the back's head is concerning.  No reason to isolate me as a troll when the entire thread is about concerns.

So, your concern is an in-completion you saw in the 2hr game? Keep trolling buddy!

The offense scoring 14 points against the 27th ranked defense in the league who was also missing key defensive starters is an awfully bad omen.

Deangelo running for 3.3 yards per carry against the leagues 31st ranked rushing defense is pretty bad.

For a ground based methodical offense to lose the time of possession battle by nearly 10 minutes is scary.

If not for Cam's legs and ability to make clutch plays this offense would be absolutely horrendous.

Top issues with the offense in no particular order:

- Lafell's inconsistency

- Byron Bell (self explanatory)

- Lack of sharp, quick passing plays and hot routes.

I agree with you, especially the lack of sharp, quick passing plays, but I have to throw in Cams consistent high throws as a huge concern, especially to open receivers.

Moral Loses.

Remember how last season we were doing everything right but just couldnt win? so we labeled the loses with Moral Victories?

Well this season, against all odds, in many games, we should have lost. We did everything wrong, but still won.

I really did not want "luck" to carry us into the playoffs. I know in actuality, it was the defense that carried us over but you know what i mean.

I truly want to see an entirely better offense this coming jan 12th, 19th and feb 2nd

We all know how the post season has the ability morph teams into better or worse, regardless of the regular season performance.

Our read option plays haven't been getting us first downs either. Cam rarely chooses to keep the ball because teams slow play the mesh point and by the time he hands it off the holes in the offensive line usually are closed up. Where we've been successful on option plays are on the triple option and packaged plays where Cam audibles to the run.

Maybe defenses waste to much time stopping the option leaving everything else open for us. We're again, 12-4. I think you guys only notice the read option when the QB keeps it.

I just said that Cam rarely  usually hands it off and you just said I only notice it when he keeps it? And yes, we are 12-4, and no, I'm not panicking, but when you say that Cam and Wilson are killing the read option when they clearly haven't had the same level of success as they have had in the past with it and follow it by saying we don't know football, well. . .

They do in practice. Apparently its still a work in progress.

I think the problem's always been that Brandon coming in is an obvious tell that he's going to get a route because his blocking just isn't up to snuff. I just hope he's progressed over the season and could actually spend a series or two on the field to force teams to adjust to it.
